Is there any synth out there that has the sound quality of U-He Diva?

Try using the bandpass (multimode) filter in self oscillation as the oscillator.

something i really dont like. I prefer the option to sync the phase to gate/trig for bass sounds and percussion sounds. i did mention it in testing, not sure if it will be in an update, i hope so.

It was discussed a fair bit.

The (fairly unarguable) reason that Diva doesn't offer phase retriggering is that none of the analogue synths that Diva seeks to model has phase retriggered oscillators.

There was talk of adding a digital oscillator at some later stage. Whether that's still on the cards...

I suspect it will get in there cause enough people asked for phase reset on note on... Maybe as a separate 'digital' osc module... which I would like to see for other reasons too.

I enjoy the variability of the free running osc's and am content with the options in Diva. If I really want phase reset, I use a different synth. But I also tend to aim for that sort of variability and if you want more repeatable sounds I can understand you wishing for the feature...

To me even arpegio sounds need phase trig.

Yep. We'll probably add a sync to key trigger function to a fixed phase. (as explained often before, a user adjustable phase isn't easily implemented)

The main reasoning behind not doing this initially was to prevent preset banks from being full of sterile sounds. This IMHO could have affected Diva's perception as authentic sounding. Well, now that we proved our point we'll evaluate possibilities that are more typical for digital synths ;)

We btw. noticed that the attack of analogue synths if very, very hard to match. The main problem is that digital synths need to put voices to sleep when they're not heard. So playing a new note requires us for a voice to "wake it up", where the filter envelope and lfo may have processed in the background. This comes as a sudden change that may randomly cause clicks and pops. Only with Diva 1.1.1 we're now absolutely satisfied with this (well, Arksun was hammering us with this issue, rightly so, thanks mate!). Just keep in mind that we're very precious about - I kid you not - months invested into analogue attack mojo so we're bit a wear about adding such a shortcut as key reset

Human error..? Possible
Not human error.

Apart from the osc reset, all analogue synths we have feature dc-blockers in the filter feedback. In fact, a Minimoog does not have much self-oscillation below 100Hz. So try to get a 808ish kick with Oooph out of a Minimoog (well, our's anyway), you'll always fail.

The best chance in Diva should be had with the BITE filters. I would take the BITE highpass for the self oscillation and use any lowpass to taste to shape the sound. I am far away from any daw though, I can't try myself.

Cheers,

Urs

Good on ya! :wheee: Count me as another user who's super happy about U-He being on the bleeding edge of attack technology! (sorry about all the war-like terminology)

Thanks for the hint Urs! The HPF Bite works great! I had actually used the Bite lowpass before, but used to much resonance which gave me a "hardcore" kick. Backing off some of the highpass bite's resonance and i got a nice bassdrum! :)
