Reason sound doesn't sell is not true

Depends which RE, depends which VST. In any case, RE SDK doesn't allow developers using low-level optimizations that they can use with VST. Think about that for a minute.u_f_o wrote:i like it's light on cpu even with RE's it's still WAY less demanding then vst's.

Nor it ever will replace the VST format.

Are you a professional salesman when you sell your used hardware?Flandersh wrote:I have always sold my used hardware telling the customer they pay much more for it than it is worth, and I have never had a problem selling the hardware.chk071 wrote:Well, when you want to sell something, would you say "Well, it's a quite ok product, nothing special, but it is ok." or would say "This product is far ahead of its competitors."?![]()

Of course it will.EvilDragon wrote:Nor it ever will replace the VST format.
Not at least due to several highly reliable ex-users at KVR, we all know that PH is an evil corporation that abuse their customers and wants to take over the DAW market (and then the World). They know they have to provide VST support to make people slaves of Reason. They will probably implement it and when all people have shifted to Reason, they will remove it again, so there are nothing left but non-resellable cpu hungry REs. Whoahahaha! That would be an evil deed.
Man, I would love to work for a company like that!

I really don't understand why we're having this discussion (well, you guys are anyway). You use a tool because it gives you the means to achieve a goal you have in mind. Does it really matter whether a part of it is or is not better than the equivalent part of some other tool you could get? If it works for you, who cares? If comparing matters for you and it's more important to you that all parts are better than the equivalent parts in any other tool (the digital equivalent of comparing dicks perhaps), just use something else then, or be very frustrated because you'll never find anything you'll be happy with.
Reason works for me. I don't care whether RE is better than VST or not. I don't care whether the sound is supposed to be inferior or superior to something else. It works for me and I'm happy with it. If not, I wouldn't be using it.

spaceman: But... but... it's about proving the other person is WRONG. Watching them wilt and break down at the indefatigable fact that you are RIGHT and have beaten your opponent into utter submission.
And possibly throwing a few ad hominem insults in there for good measure. Heaven forbid anyone should be interested in making music...

Steinberg released the VST interface specification and SDK in 1996.TheoM wrote:And why bring comparisons on how long vst took to get certain features for example? When vst is WELL over a decade old technology? The point being there, since the standards and what we expect of them are already established, why would anyone release a new format that is anything less than at least on par with what already available? I just remembered even au is ten years old now.. So how old is vst? 15 years or more?
VST 2.0, 1999
VST 2.4, 2006
VST 3.0, 2008
VST 3.5, 2011
My curiosity is piqued by the assertion that RE does something with a VST that's unique or more powerful, out of the way things are patched in Reason. One thing I liked about it was the voltage control paradigm. What do they do with it - someone give a concrete example of a plugin and its modularity with the next plugin - what actually is possible?
If it's true the SDK doesn't allow optimization, the claim it's more efficient just flew out the window.
I know one composer that does some really compelling things with it; I like the Combinator, he showed it to me. That's someone that was doing sophistimocated things with hardware sequencers back in the '80's. He is not compelled to use anything else. I don't think I'm interested in a slower implementation of VSTs but I am curious about that claim. Chances are kind of low that I would buy it so don't do too much.

I think I'm just going to take your word on the performance of REs, you move around a lot and have used plugins of all kinds on several hosts, so...
I'm going to host like 98% of plugins in VE Pro and that's the end of that story, I have no interest in going back to 2009.
someone else has indicated they received the belief from above that the implementation is superior because of what Reason can do. In the abstract, I'm at a loss to imagine what is *technically* possible. What can you take from, eg., Absynth that is meaningful to Guitar Rig just through Reason? I have applications in mind, but what about Reason's ways make one thing a modular part of a chain with the next? I'm skeptical of this, I think the developer of the plugin is where this would be incepted and then in coordination with Reason, you know?
