Bazille 1.0

I bought the Bazille Beta. And I was happily programming patches. It's my kind of synth.
But then I installed the 1.0 version with the factory presets... Wow, there are some great patches in the factory bank! Will I ever learn to program these kind of patches?
Wouldn't it be nice if Howard Scarr could do some tutorial videos for Bazille! Like those for Zebra. Not repeating the manual, like Groove3 and MacVideoPro do. But creating patches and some tips and tricks. Because many patches in the factory library are daunting (many cables and stuff going on).

the more you work with it, the easier the programming will become. Don't worry, everybody had to spend months and years to understand the full potential of a modular system. And after that it only starts to get really interesting. Experienced synthesiser programmers like Howard Scarr surely can confirm that.

I agree that it would be pretty damn cool to see a Howard Bazille video. The tips and tricks section in the manual is sweet too though, everyone should check that out.

LOL. You guys crack me up. The official marketing line for this synth should be: "Bazille. How high are you right now?"kelvyn wrote:I've been stoned a LOT and it sounds even better not stoned!

I love the new sounds, except for one thing: they mostly have a strange distant quality to them. Is there a way to bring the sounds forward? Am I the only one who hears it this way? Am I making sense? Also, it feels like there's a lack of treble, and I'm not sure eq will be enough to brighten the sounds up. I want to love this synth, and it's all there apart from these two issues.

I'm not getting the distant thing. There is the balance parameter of the rotary effect, which can makem a sound seem distant - but I don't think all that many of the presets use the rotary fx...?martingifford wrote:I love the new sounds, except for one thing: they mostly have a strange distant quality to them. EDIT: There isn't a rotary effect...I'm thinking of Diva!
Haven't really been through the presets much because I bought it at the beta stage when there weren't any patches, and got into the nitty gritty of it without them with this synth. Kinda glad too, as it forced me to learn more of the ins & outs straight away (already familiar with ACE, so that was a bit of a springboard).
Try upping the fractal resonance a bit and the treble will start squealing! Does change the sound though.

Q. Why is a mouse when it spins?
A. The higher the fewer.

I've had Bazille for a while now but today was the first day I really spent some time with it... Wow!!! The presets are a knockout, the competition winners get a huge thumbs up from me as well as the regular sound design guys. It's a smorgasbord of sounds... as Bjorn Bjorg might say.

I got Bazille last week, having been very impressed with the quality of the presets.
I may not really be the target audience I guess, so feel free to all shoot me down in flames. But one I think I find consistently offputting about U-He (this is my first actual purchase) is how impoverished the patch browser is. The initials of the programmer are a very weird way to sort patches, beyond their basic category. Also, although there are useful notes for the patches, there's no way to do even a basic search. Patches are kinda all over the place, some in the competition folder, some not.
Now, I know the howls I'll get - it's not a preset machine, learn how to program it yourself. And to a point, fair enough. But why have patches at all if they're not to be found, used and tweaked? And something as complex as Bazille could do with a slight leg up, surely? It's not a an actual virtue to be obscure, is it? (yeah, I guess many will think it is, actually).
I mean, I knew all this before I bought it and I still bought it. I like the company, they get a great sound - I'm delighted to support them. But I know in practice it's the kind of synth I'll turn to last, once I've tried stuff where I can search by string or tag to get near what I'm after (Spectrasonics, Native Instruments). Just wondered if anyone else out there felt the same way.

IMO what you said is totally fair, Guy. I think the best way to use the patch browser as it is right now, is just go through and favorite stuff you think you'll use.
I find it a little overwhelming at first, seeing so many presets, so for some reason my brain feels better when I buy a soundset of a certain theme and go through those sounds already knowing the overall vibe. I'm not just saying that cause I have a soundset for sale either lol. I genuinely feel that way.

It is the long term plan to improve the patch browser (as stated by U-he). Personally, I like the U-he patch browser much more than the Native Instruments one (I find the NI one annoying). I don't like the whole database thing. I don't like that I do a search and get some of the same presets as the previous search. I don't like searching by terms cause my own presets are a bit hard to categorize and or don't easily fit the standard terms.noiseboyuk wrote:I got Bazille last week, having been very impressed with the quality of the presets.

I like that I can organize Bazille presets in my own way. I can manually make my own directory structure. I have no trouble finding what I want in U-he synths.
But don't worry, I think most people prefer the database thing, but I do not.
