Exponential Audio: R2

It they wanted to prevent resale all that they would have to do is incorporate the iLok registration into their web site like many vendors do. That way you would log in and simply give your iLok username to focusrite to have your license deposited. They wouldn't have to give you the code at all really.

people stop bitching around, then they start restrictions!
im grateful for the plugin, if others use it for relasle, done, let them do, why not? software isnt hardware.

Someone like me who bought Phoenixverb a couple of years ago, thus earning Exponential money, don't get anything.

To me, that's a curious business strategy.
Of course Exponential Audio earn something from it. Attention, and potential new customers for their other plugins. Of course Focusrite earn something from it. New customers for their hardware, which get attracted by the generous monthly offerings.

Really, it isn't a gift, as if you had birthday, and your mom bought a present for you. Even if Exponential Audio and Focusrite didn't make a deal (which i think they did), it is in both companies interest.
I strongly believe Exponential audio got the money from Focusrite.

I'm thinking Phoenixverb as well as R2 might be "end of line" as they are succeeded by Nimbus and R4 respectively, even in price. So both Phoenix and R2 could be seen as older, less evolved versions compared to their newer siblings.
R2 is already showing "sold out" at international resellers like Thomann and Phoenix was $50 last Black Friday. Eventually even Exponential Audio may envisage giving it away for free, like Tracktion does with older versions of its DAW software.

is it worth upgrading to R4?

Wooosh! Thanks for the heads-up. I emailed their support asking if there would be any possibility of them opening up licensing to iLok software in future and they said that there are no plans whatsoever - and they're adamant they'll stick with iLok hardware.

So it's either get a dongle or just let it go.

Post

And that's why I'll have to pass - apparently it didn't really work with that Pheonix deal a while ago so now he tries to persuade people into getting an ilok-dongle with an even bigger deal...

Post

Yeah, one wonders if PACE are involved in this Focusrite deal too :P

Post

I'll pass on this too, my love for iLok is so big that I will happily continue using my usual reverbs.

Yes, that might actually be the case... (even if I doubt it)

That's bound to lead to a few mistakes. Hopefully, the backlash won't be so severe as to wipe out the perceived goodwill of the giveaway. For me though, the damage is pretty much already done.

That is prett weak. They should consider legitimizing the sold lic's with a small transfer fee or something. You can't really blame them as the sales go against their agreement with focusrite no doubt. Not to mention, they are responsible for supporting the lic's, which would have to come out of their pockets for nothing essentially. E.g. A bad business situation for them for the most part.

If Exponential Audio feels so strong about this they have made a wrong choice to give people a code that they have to acivate into a NFR license.
It's a business, get your stuff right the first time and don't complain when you didn't.
Learn from it and do better next time.
Don't alienate new customers.
