No, it is not the detuning. Else I would hear it in Sylenth1 as well, when I make the same simple patch in it.wagtunes wrote:Okay, now at least I understand what it is you're hearing. That's the detuning. It's not a bug and there's nothing wrong with that sound. Not to my ears and I'm sure not to anybody else's here who is listening to the same thing we're listening to.
Un-freaking-believable.
I'm done.

have you emailed u-he, fluffy ?
it would be a lot more productive and insightful than discussing it with wagtunes.
they'll tell you if it's intended behaviour as part of an authentic emulation of the hardware. or has that already been officially established here in the thread ?

I'm not sure why someone who doesn't even own the synth is complaining about distortion/grinding. A vintage emulation is the wrong place if you want a clean sound, sounds like inexperience/user error...
On another note, I'm loving the final version. Just a shame there are no presets from The Unfinished in Repro-5

This world needs more Love, Popcorn and Cats and less discussions like recent.
Serious note: has anybody seen any actual measurement of PePro performance on recent high profile AMDs and Intels?

My suggestion is that Sylenth1 simply isn't as beefy as RePro, thus you won't perceive the oscillator beating as much as in RePro. I remember when i first tried Steinberg Retrologue, that i thought something was wrong about its sound, because some notes seemed artificially amplified in the bass frequencies. But, it's just the way it sounds.fluffy_little_something wrote:No, it is not the detuning. Well, the AMD's scale very well. When you know how my 1500X behaves, you can pretty much expect twice the performance from the 1800X, maybe 5-10% more than twice thanks to the slightly higher clock.david.beholder wrote:This world needs more Love, Popcorn and Cats and less discussions like recent.

- I am not complaining about anything, I am merely stating my observationRobGee wrote:I'm not sure why someone who doesn't even own the synth is complaining about distortion/grinding. A vintage emulation is the wrong place if you want a clean sound, sounds like inexperience/user error...
- This is a general thread on it in the Instruments forum, not the U-he support forum, so I don't see how my not owning Repro has anything to do with my observation

Out of interest: when you turn filter resonance all the way to zero (it's slightly open in the patch in question), does the grinding disappear?

That indeed reduces the noise considerably, interestingCaptain wrote:Out of interest: when you turn filter resonance all the way to zero (it's slightly open in the patch in question), does the grinding disappear?

Yes, I think the resonance knob is the root of the problem. At zero it sounds fine to me.
Does the resonance control lead to such behavior on the original, too?

Yes, it can do that. Filter saturation, as Urs said.
It's a non-linearity in filter's feedback loop (which creates the resonance). Sylenth's filter is not non-linear AFAIK, so it's "squeaky clean" like that.

I remember it from Spire, too, but there starting from the init patch, which certainly had no resonance on.
And why does it seem to affect only pulse waves?
