Me too. Hive's ModMatrix, oscillator code, filter modelling technique, separation and interaction of sequencer and arpeggiator, some effects... all parts developed in respect of Z3. Just like Repro's voice management.

Here's what I don't understand, especially for EDM sounds. If a synth has basic filters, envelopes and LFOs and can make a supersaw sound, it can do EDM. There is no magic sauce to EDM sounds that I've heard anyway.

I think a lot of what people THINK they hear that's so amazing is in their minds.

^^this. it has to be said - those who complain that zebra sounds outdated or not "edm" simply don't know how to program/use zebra. may sound harsh (_not_ intended), but it's as simple as that.
i recently had to do quite a big sample library and besides some few other synths, zebra is all over the place. it has lost _nothing_ of its quality and is sound-wise as well as feature-wise still a massive synth. and the good thing is, that on nowadays computers it actually uses almost no cpu, so you can go to full extend with it.
zebra was and is one of the most capable synths out there, which _never_ should be underestimated. just because it is "old" it doesn't mean it's not capable - at least this applies to zebra. there _could_ be some modern features added, but apart from that it does the job. and it does it excellent, if you know what to do.

Zebra2 will always have a place in my heart because I used it to produce what I consider to be my best record, and by the way there were a lot of "in your face" EDM sounds in there.
The reason I switched to Avenger some years later is because of the interface: I found myself coming up with the sounds I had my head much quicker, which to me is key when working on a deadline.
Zebra's UI and workflow never really clicked with me for some reason, no matter how much I wanted it to.

well... i have the same feeling. Maybe its just me and i dont get it. For example when iam playing presets in Dune3 iam creaming myself in joy. Cant say same about any Zebra2&ZebraHz presets... Not sure. I must be missing something.

edit: oh i missread ur comment. I still think it sucks. So iam totally alone

I might have to take a full week and give it another try. However cant wait for Zebra3 though!

have you checked the latest version? i was quite surprised, that there is now a skin which looks fantastic and is also adapted with enhanced features - f.e. you can now show the mseg's etc in a way bigger area, there's parameters visually rearranged more logically, etc...

The layout is essentially the same, which definitely takes some getting used to and is not as intuitive as, say Fathom. Especially when trying to figure out what is parallel vs serial, how to route what where, and I still have to click two places to see all the properties of most modules. The new GUI didn't change that at all.

However, the new skin is much more inviting, so you are more inclined to tough out the learning curve, and the MSEG editor is fantastic.

I had a close listen to that on laptop speakers. It sounds very ambient and atmospheric. The pad sounds are the real highlight. This confirms my hunch that Zebra is ideally suited to film scores and soundtracks. As for the trance super saws and percussive pluck sounds they are not up to standard with something like Spire. Spire just has these punchy envelopes that I've not heard elsewhere. I wouldn't describe Zebra as thin sounding like someone else did, in my opinion Zebra is girthy sounding and has impressive low end extension, but doesn't do aggressively harsh in your face sounds like typical EDM synths. Others will see that as an advantage. As for the Hans Zimmer comment about IMAX, I think Zebra's beefy low end works well with the subs in surround cinema setups.

This one doesn't have Zebra (indicating anything?)--it does have Hive:

The guy tried to make the same supersaw sound with them all, and they are all quite similar, with some a bit short on the high end and stereo spread. Can Zebra 2 not compare?
