Ah, yes. Missed the fact that it's bi-polar.

Got ya.e-crooner wrote: Tue Dec 15, 2020 6:47 pmClose enough for my needsI am not a big fan of the U-he sound to begin with, frankly.
I just spent half an hour trying to match Retrologue to this new Tal plugin, I like that kind of challenge![]()
I guess that is why we do need choices.

I do kinda wish there was a hidden away matrix or some way of assigning mpe expressions to more than just filter and volume. I like how Cherry Audio did their DCO-60 in this way.

LOL. BS. Every 'hardware dude' I know is constantly selling, buying, re-selling, and GASing over their next acquisition. Last months' 'perfect piece of kit' is next month's Craigslist ad.Stefken wrote: Tue Dec 15, 2020 5:35 pm Yes, but we buy tons more plugins too. I think we have all bought plugins for the price of a good meal to entertain us for a couple of days/weeks? and then just forgot about it.
You don’t do that with hardware.
It's no different, just a hell of a lot more expensive.

Let's hear you recreate that arp pattern. Unless you didn't get it, it's a single patch. I simply pressed down on a few keys.layzer wrote: Tue Dec 15, 2020 6:31 amblippy-dee bloop-dee-doo....nothing revolutionary that some other old VA can't do.bmanic wrote: Tue Dec 15, 2020 4:02 am Copy/Paste from Gearslutz:
Ok, so I've been playing with this thing for 3 hours straight now with this ridiculously phat, absolutely hilariously over the top arpeggiated pluck sound I managed to create. What can I say? Purchased.![]()
Here's a short snippet from my several hour long recording (looped once).
Yes, this is a single instance of TAL-J-8 -> TEOTE + A bit of Timeless 2 delay and ValhallaSupermassive as the reverb.
R.I.D.I.C.U.L.O.U.S!!! (google drive link)![]()
So, lets go. Remind me when you've done something even remotely as clean and complex as that arp in any other basic VA.
EDIT: To be fair, the sound itself (the pluck sound) could probably quite easily duplicated in a single typical VA.. but the trick here is the strange syncopated ARP pattern, using the dual layer feature of J-8 and the fact that these layers are completely independent of one another in terms of sound. That's what makes it a bit complex. I should probably have rendered a version at half the tempo but I was just having way too much fun at that stupidly high tempo.

Why is there always a problem with playing Google Drive audio files?
Anyway, after downloading it (and checking it for viruses
), it is too fast for me to notice anything unusual.

You always have the option to "freeze" your computer setup in time.. thus it then behaves just like any other hardware. It lasts as long as it works.Stefken wrote: Tue Dec 15, 2020 5:19 pmThe software route is still relatively new but it might turn out the lifecycle of a software synth is maybe like 5 years or so. Without putting an exact number on it: certainly (a lot) shorter than hardware.revvy wrote: Tue Dec 15, 2020 4:49 pm I sold my SH -101 as it kept going out of tune and I had nobody nearby to repair it. Bought a TAL 101 and pocketed the several hundred bucks difference. Such is life.

No problem with playing it back here. But, it's too hectic for my taste.e-crooner wrote: Tue Dec 15, 2020 8:32 pm Why is there always a problem with playing Google Drive audio files?![]()

Yeah that was my bad. Should have made it much slower. Too bad I deleted the project but I did keep the sound.. sort of. I took a screenshot of it when I was playing with the demo as I didn't realize I could just save with the demo.e-crooner wrote: Tue Dec 15, 2020 8:32 pm Why is there always a problem with playing Google Drive audio files?![]()

Anyhow, it's quite complex and probably not completely in tune (has a some cross mod there to add some spice and it tends to bring stuff out of tune). The main part is that it's beefing up the actual "pluck" part of the sound with a fast modulated LFO that modulates filter and VCA in "opposite" directions. It's a bit hard to explain but basically there is a quick "flutter" kind of thing going on in the background that severely beefs up the pluck itself. It's a bit difficult to get beefy yet "stable" plucks with a Jupiter series synth in my opinion. Those Rolands always tend to sound quite narrow.. sort of opposite to moog/oberheim, at least this has been my experience. Having said that, Jupiters always tend to sit in a mix extremely well.. this TAL VA version at least seems to share that trait.
Haven't tried the Roland Cloud nor the Arturia option yet (though I did try the previous version of their Jupiter and thoroughly disliked it).

.. and sometimes not even selling, just collecting dust in a corner, just like virtual dust in my plugin folder!

Hm, not sure what you mean, but there is something utterly unpleasant to that pluck sound in my view. I prefer the clean type.bmanic wrote: Tue Dec 15, 2020 8:39 pmYeah that was my bad. Yes, the Jupiter 8 has a rather different sound character compared to American analog synths.
