I like clip because it clearly defines the function and would stand the test of time.

Lol and I was just watching a doco about fallout, and the abuse of nuclear weapons in the 20th century. :P

Yeah that one sounds good, though it reminds me of the cheezy Robocop 2 drug "nuke".

Glad to hear you're back at the workbench!

One question: since you're now making 'The Drop 2.0', will this show up as a separate plugin as 1.0?

This is how Native Instruments does it, and it plays havoc on opening old files.

On the other hand, Spectrasonics released Omnisphere 2, the plugin was still called Omnisphere, so old projects made with Omni 1 now open fine. There's only one Omnisphere in my plugin list.

I would much prefer this second way.

Have you decided how you're going to tackle this?

Thanks
Ben

I looked up the distressor. Watched a video comparing it to the LA-3A and a 1176. That led me to the fatso and then I found this which might interest you Andy.

Version two will be a new product with a new set of parameters which will break all automation in existing projects so it won't be possible to keep the same plugin id. The only way to allow for existing projects to load properly is to continue using the old plugin. There will be "The Drop" and "The Drop 2" in the plugin menus in your DAW. If you want to update an old project then you can add a new instance of The Drop 2 and copy and paste the settings the settings to the new instance, and then also copy and paste automation over to the correct parameter. There is nothing in any plugin API to allow for translation of automation between parameters if they change order.

If Omnisphere didn't have a different parameter set, or just appended new parameters to the end then there would be no issue. I will release a new build of The Drop with the old parameter order without any new parameters so old projects will continue to run just fine.

I finally picked this up earlier. It's not nearly as CPU intensive as I'd expected. I'm sure it's in the documentation, but is there a rundown of what all the filter models are? I can't make sense of most of the abbreviations.

This circuit is an easy way to fade in the amount of clipping, you can get pretty similar by using the web/dry knob of any plugin that does static waveshaping.

Thanks for your reply. Can you commit to support the drop 1 and the drop 1 installer for future operating systems? I'm unfortunately unable to install guitar rig 4 in el Capitan, which has caused major hassle in opening old projects.

Post

It's easy to support both versions for a long time, I can switch which version I'm targeting by changing a single line in a header.

This won't work since the cutoff changes with resonance and with incoming signal level. Also there is a HP followed by LP filter, so you can't have two LP filters offset anyway.

It is possible to allow for entry of harmonic ratios on the freq knobs though, that's easy. You could type in "1000/2" and you get 500, or "1000*3" and you get 3000. Just set the other cutoff to 1000 as well and that's it. Then use the Shift knob to move both cutoffs together.
