advaya - Get off the Road -> A very rich-sounding track, full and complete. Love all of the sounds; that vox pad is particularly nice, as is the little bleepy sound. Very nice.

Thanks Sttjelle. I have to admit I kind of misread the contest rules (took a quick glance, downloaded MIDI #1 and got going heh) and thought we weren't supposed to change a lot to the MIDI, so that's why it sounds so much like the original. Without trying to pad myself on the back I have to say I am really pleased with the way my version came outsttjelle wrote:Thanks, you have a very nice track yourself. The sounds works very well in my ears and is done more gently and more laidback than my version of file #1.core wrote: Sttjelle - Fueltrip
Has a lot of fuel, really feels energetic. Lovely choice of instrumentation, great job!![]()

Thanks for the feedback Echo. I have some free time throughout most of tomorrow morning, so I am really looking forward to downloading the current submissions, and providing my mini-reviews. (always a good time that).
Cheers.
Cheers.

Hot from the printer :
offthewall - Along the road : I can hear midi isn't your cup of tea, but you did it ! Quoting Humphrey Bogart : "God damn the bloody torpedos, full steam ahead !"
Advaya - Get off the road : A very rich-sounding track, full and complete. Love all of the sounds; that vox pad is particularly nice, as is the little bleepy sound. Very nice. (quoting Echo Vodoo, 'cose I think the same way)
This version has one of the finest endings !
An idea : I could say to the Tone2 guy that most of you belong to "Team AIR" and "H2O", get rid of some competitors and on top of that get $1000 !
Hey, now I realize he's paying in $'s and no 1000€, what a mistake !
OK, Mello wake up and grumble something funny.

After a satisfying siesta
, a new song + review :
ianweb123 - Mike Leftfield : You won't win anyways ?
In my top-10 you could have won, 'cose you've got a very attracktive version. Centainly once the thingie starts running !
Unfortunately 2 min was not enough for this approach.
IMO the tranquil intro is too long for this concept. It has the "coitus interruptus" fx... When one gets realy into the flow of the song... it stops.
BTW the sound of the "organ thingie" in the beginning sounds exactly as I remember my old Plillips organ (Phillicorda) from a century ago.
Well done Mr.Krakli !
PhilliMax... .. .
PS : Yesterday I've tried an amazing new free compressor : jb_pc2, from Jeroen Breedbaart (I hope I wrote the name correct), one of the brainy-types who does wizzard-inventions for Phillips in Einhoven. (again
) About 2% cpu use. A MUST to have !

You gonna love this one ! I've tried it on a song, where I, as always applied the W1 Limiter, and the song sounded a lot better (transparent).
This is a miracle, 'cose my songs sound perfect !!!

That'll have to wait until after I finish suing you for copyright infringement for stealing my review of advaya's song.Max el Belga wrote:An idea : I could say to the Tone2 guy that most of you belong to "Team AIR" and "H2O", get rid of some competitors and on top of that get $1000 !

ianweb123 - Mike LeftField -> #1 - Interesting sounds, they feel rare and uncommon. Love the plunky, metallic string sounds. Really feels like it needs a lot more time, this could go on for 10 minutes easy.
Laguna Rising - Wanton Exaggeration -> #2 - Has a jazzy feel to it, very eclectic and with lots of movement. Love the drums, the sudden tempo changes, and the pure energy.

advaya - A bit of a modern touch here with this song. I like the cohesive movement you have in this arrangement, as well as the sounds used. Quite more epic than the original.
krakli soft - First of all, I like those plugs you make.
I say, this I could agree on the spiritual vein of Mike Oldfield, downtempo movement and the use of simplistic yet great sounding synths. It sounds very retro, only it sounds too clean/metalllic in quality, in my opinion.
offthewall - It's an orchestral quartet eh. It is a quartet, no offence, but playability it's an amateur one. The improv is so realistic, hahaha. But otherwise, yeah, this is what sounds to me like a high school/college/uni ensemble.
Laguna Rising - (I must've mistook you for Legion Hush on my previous review... Damned these similar letters)
Now, well, this this is an interesting take on file#2. I can see the definite take on a bit more acoustic turn of how the song was to sound, although I feel the timings are a bit too chaotic with the instruments; the drums (being acoustic), the set you used doesn't really make do since the drumlines were intentionally made for synthetic drums. Otherwise, the drunken improv with the guitars and pianos got a grin out of me. The tempo changes seem a bit weird to me. I dunno why. But otherwise great effort on trying.
(The drums shoulda been edited a bit to suit acoustic playing.)
Great stuff I'm hearing here. Now...whatever happened to the polka?

And another one :
LagunaRising - One ton exaggeration : Sorry for the joke with yer tittle, but I couldn't resist...
A good idea adding el. guitar. This file has a great Zappa-air IMO, so the guitar is nearly a must.
You're only a bit too timid on it's volume.

i've submitted my track, though i worry how closely it adheres to the rules as i built something around a slowed down loop and added rather alot to it - trouble is i got carried away by the wonders of spring. is it ok or should it be tied up in a sack and tossed down a well?
