Hello. I have a question for those who own this unit. Does the plugiator send control messages to other software such as another synth or even a sequencer for automation? If it does, does it work well?

Post

I think it doesn't, since it doesn't have a MIDI out, only MIDI thru. So the only thing it can do is just extend the MIDI messages from your MIDI controller to other equipment, but in itself it doesn't generate control messages, seems to be.

Post

The USB port is a midi interface so this isn't necessarily true.

Yes, forgot about that part. So perhaps sending an e-mail to Use Audio could clear all things up.

Have had a preliminary skirmish with this and it is awesome. Great sound quality.
The loading and updating instruments was fiddly and time consuming.
The PlugManager seems stable in Windows 7, no discernable latency.
Someone has taken the time to do presets that on a random flythru seem to have alot of usable sounds.
Can't get the vst bit going in Orion, haven't tried another DAW yet. Not sure I really need this. Ooops, need a midiyolk I just noticed.

Seems like alot in a small box.

The VST bit is just for control. That's certainly less useful than it could have been, unfortunately, but it's better than not having it at all.

I'm sure you've gotten the answer by now, but just for the record, it's possible, but strictly from hunger. It outputs USB MIDI, and you could reroute that with software like Bome's SendSX. Maybe you can capture that from a DAW, but I haven't had any luck getting Tracktion, Acid, or Kore to talk to it yet. So not only is there that extra layer of fiddliness, you're limited to whatever controllers those eight knobs send. Some of the synths send the same controllers, but you might find the controllers the B4000 uses (for the drawbars) to be arbitrary. You'd get way more mileage out of a NanoKontrol.

Sorry to dig this old thread up from the grave, but in my search for a KingKORG replacement (for space issues only) I came across the good ol' Plugiator. Seems like a fully loaded Plugiator would serve my needs well, but I have questions regarding a much talked about bug where if freezes up when fed MIDI clock. Has this been fixed? Will it sync to a MIDI clock reasonably well?

Hhmm...I have it connected DIN midi no problems, but the USB to computer is buggy, so I connect up for the editor to do new patches, then disconnect. Can unpredictably lose it's settings.
I like esp Pro12, but old tech.

I bought a plugiator new and it's still sitting on my desk... Obviously you've worked out that it was abandoned long ago but the editor still works with G series macs and it worked with windows up to windows seven for sure. The guy that put these things out was a bit of a prick in that he insisted you have verified proof of everything before he would assist you. I actually had to dig in an old file cabinet and fax him a copy of my receipt before he would answer my question one time. I have thought about selling it many times but THOSE CREAMWARE ALGOS OMG! the thing sounds amazing even today. As close as I ever personally heard to a real moog. Problem is it's a preset players box now. It's not really meant to be used with an editor and such any more. It's a players preset instrument. I could not even remember how to get into my online account anymore if I wanted to. I'm stuck with what I got. Luckily it has all the machines loaded on it. But it's just standard presets and the only control over it I have is the filter cut off and the delay line. To answer your question...I don't have any problems with midi clock on a mac...but you know, windows...I could never get anything to work right. It's just a players instrument to have around for those classic old sounds now.

Interesting. I always keep around a few old machines for such things, like editing my DX200, so I have no real issue running a separate machine for basic editing as long as when it's being used as a tone generator I don't have issues with MIDI clock.

I know it's old tech, so to speak, but you're right, those Creamware algorithms rule. My KingKORG sounds as good, but I had to get rid of the stand I keep it on so that houseguests could get into the closet it was blocking. I kept doing this and finally just decided enough was enough. The Plugiator will sit under a monitor and be invisible. It's just so crazy it might work.

I actually liked the prodyssy the best. I was shits and giggles over the poly pro one but its different. It's THAT sounds all right, but being a poly pro one makes it unique. Man that thing had so much potential. You are going to make me fire it up now. I liked the king kong algos a lot myself, the sounds was there but I found the encoders to be a bit wobbly on the one I tried.

As far as the plugiator goes...good luck. I'm pretty sure you will have to have an online account to register the editor if you can get all the different pieces. They are still online if you haven't checked yet. Then there is an issue of you have to download a work around for the midi pipe if you want to use it in a daw. you can't just load the editor in a daw without it. The best way to work it today is to GET THE MANUAL!!! download that manual and keep it in a safe place. Because in the back of course is all the midi controller numbers and you can use the midi controller numbers to build your own controller. I used them to build a minimax templet in automap one time. That was years ago though. I don't think I still have it laying around anymore.

I'm sure you've looked but what you need is here.

So... Do you think there would be issues buying one used?

If you wanted to set up the editor I would say there would be problems because you used to have register it online. If you are just relying on the hardware it should be good. It's the editor side that's screwed. If you get lucky you can find one that has all the registration information. Of course if you wind up getting a broken unit there will be O recourse so you get what you get. I would hope that U could check it out first.
