I listened to this and thought at times it was very similar to my Mopho, but maybe better sounding resonance, i.e. just sounded more acid type squelchy, which I like. Hmmm, do I need it...really?KBSoundSmith wrote:Found this posted over at gearslutz--it's a line level recording of the MS20 mini:
What's the difference soundwise from my Mopho to this I really wonder, what can this achieve my Mopho cannot...I'm now looking for reasons to not be interested to cure the GAS!

The main difference is that the MS20 has a resonant HPF which can be used together with the a resonant LPF. This is rather a special arrangement, which allows for some extreme (or not) sounds that Mopho will never be able to deliver. Some other vintage analog synths have a HPF (in addition to a VCF) but without resonance.
We take having lots of filter modes in soft synths for granted these days, but in the 1970s and 80s such flexibility as offered by the MS20 wasn't common. Another cool feature is the ring modulator, which I believe Mopho doesn't have. You may not find much use for it - knowing your interest in classic house and electro tracks from the 1980s - but it's a great source of sonic mayhem!

Today I bought this http://www.dv247.com/studio-equipment/b ... xer--12636
This was because I had run out of inputs on my tiny mixer I had before my Fast Track Pro and I have a Prophet 08 on the way. This mixer is going to leave me with room for 2 more bits of hardware in the future, so it looks like the gas will get me by(or before) the end of 2013 and I'll bite on the MS-20(for only £500)!
Then what do I do with the final inputs of the mixer, hmmm, drum synth or ......?!!!

That line in recording of just some noodling around was awesome!! So many of my favourite sounds coming so easily from one box - and now I know which box. That is the synth I am looking for!

my mate used to own the original and is highly interested at the price to pick up the new version(knowing it's smaller)...he said it's an awesome synth.mclane wrote:Man I must get one of these puppies! Anyone has one already and uses it? How is it?

I have a friend who still owns the original, so once I get this new one, we are planning a stand off.breakmixer wrote:my mate used to own the original and is highly interested at the price to pick up the new version(knowing it's smaller)...he said it's an awesome synth.mclane wrote:Man I must get one of these puppies! I have recently bought a Mopho Desktop, Alpha Juno 1, Prophet 08, I thought I was all set for analogue synths, but Korg are grabbing my attention recently, I like the look of this alot but the non-patch saving puts me off a little, so I'm using that as my excuse to not buy one and ignore it.himalaya wrote:I have a friend who still owns the original, so once I get this new one, we are planning a stand off.breakmixer wrote:my mate used to own the original and is highly interested at the price to pick up the new version(knowing it's smaller)...he said it's an awesome synth.mclane wrote:Man I must get one of these puppies! Just read the Future Music review. They rather liked it.
"I was wondering if you'd like to try Magic Mushrooms"
"Oooh I dont know. Sounds a bit scary"
"It's not scary. You just lose a sense of who you are and all that sh!t"
