I finally got a chance to try Live 9 over the weekend. I upgraded from Live 8 suite with M4L to Live 9 Suite.

So far, I like what I see. The new browser feels instantly familiar and I like having all my Live packs in one place. The new M4L modulation devices are very nice to have.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I feel like the "new" MIDI editing features have been there for a while. I know that we have been able to select a range of MIDI notes and stretch them relative to each other since at least v6 or v7.

I haven't installed any of the new sound libraries yet.

I spent most of my time grabbing audio from my computer's built-in mic to play with in Ganulator 2. Lots of fun.

The projects that I'm currently working on all opened fine in Live 9, so I'm happy about that.

I got nothing to complain about yet. :)

My feelings exactly.

I also realized I had become somewhat reliant on a package of very cool native Live tools that hadn't been updated at all and I'd be upgrading in the naive hope that Live 10 (!) might bring some improvements to Amp, Cab, Electric, the Looper and other devices and effects, the m4L featureset (especially midi i/o which is only a windows issue but it is one) and a few other gripes. Then came the "BUY NOW, ONE WEEK ONLY!!!"-sale for Suite owners and I just couldn't bring myself to buy it. Maybe if m4L 6 had been fully backwards compatible (which don't tell me wouldn't have been possible. It just seems way too convenient that it isn't). Or if I didn't already own it.

But yeah, I'm totally over it too.

WTF Abes?! I thought we had something.

you already have PUSH?!?!

Mine is supposedly going to ship this week.

yea just showed up last night. Got houseguests in town though so Ive only gotten to play with it for like 5min. Definitely first thing I had to do was change the pad velocity and curve since Im used to my padkontrol, out of the box it felt much more like the usual (unresponsive IMHO) akai pads. Once I changed the settings though it felt much better

sounds like I'll be doing the same, as I pretty much only use my padKontrol.

I'm looking forward to it :)

Mine arrived four days ago. I love it! It really feels like working with a musical instrument instead of a DAW. I'm even enjoying the browser interface, which I was sure I wouldn't use at all. My only complaint is that there doesn't seem to be a way to add vst plugins from the browser, but that isn't the end if the world. I would also like to have seen a melodic step sequencer included, but I'm sure we'll see some M4L solutions in the near future. The buttons feel great!

Also another thing to keep in mind is that the official release doesnt remember curve settings across projects, it gets reset easily. However this is supposedly fixed in the latest beta, so if you find yourself always having to reset thats why

You can always rack up your vst's and store those presets, though it doesnt help much since you still have to go edit them by hand anyway to pick presets and what not unless you rack up all the presets. There are some workarounds for the step sequence though, you can have a blank drum rack, route its midi output to your synth track, then program step sequencing on the empty drum track. Just set the push do the desired range in the drum rack to get the notes right since it starts at c1 usually

what if you create a new account?

Do you need to register push in order to be recognized by Live?

I dont know but I assume if you make a new account then you probably get an intro license. You dont have to have it registered for it to work though, the few minutes I got to play with it was without having it registered on my account, I only did that this morning

well after finally getting to play with it for an hour definitely liking it more than most controllers ive tried. Found myself getting sucked in and after 20-30min ended up with some sort of chillout type house track. The thing that did surprise me was even though Im not anti-monitor/mouse/keyboard/etc I found myself not even looking at the monitors and they turned off for a while and I didnt even notice

Anyway, I think we can both agree on the fact that Ableton should allow you to overide key assignments to suit personal preference.
I was not poking fun at all, but I completely agree with you there.

+1.

Not used 9 much yet but I've had plenty of text messages from mates complaining about bugs. Think I'll wait for a few updates before using it for anything serious.

I think it's really ironic that Ableton started out as a sequencer made "by musicians for musicians". With that in mind, I find what Hibidy says about ableton not even interacting with testers in the beta to be quite inexcusable. What exactly was the point of that beta then?

So you base your opinion of software on the texts you get from others rather than your own experience?

Beta testing tries to find bugs/problems so they can be fixed. It is not an event where people suggest all sorts of nice features they'd like to see added.
