Spitfire31 wrote:I have followed the exact same procedure, always selecting 'Save As New Global User-Preset'. But it always overwrites the first user preset in the list. It never creates a preset in a new, unused slot, such as 'USER002'.

It doesn't matter if I first select a factory preset or if I use a newly created preset in the first user slot.

It would be interesting to hear if anybody else on Mac ML (10.8) has the same experience.

Also, if I save a user preset in Live 9, it's not present when I open SlickEQ in Digital Performer 7.

EDIT: I just tested on my other Mac, running 10.9. On Mavericks, saving presets works just as shown by the video when I use the very same procedure that overwrites instead of creating a new preset in OS 10.8.

So, it seems that the preset problem I'm experiencing is specific for OS 10.8 Mountain Lion.
Thank you Joachim, we'll try to reproduce the issue on our machines. Really strange.

You can search and delete "Tokyo Dawn Labs/TDR VOS SlickEQ.conf" from your system. Maybe it got messed up somehow.

Spitfire31 wrote:An unrelated detail: in the Mac AU and VST versions, the preset drop-down lists Copy State and Paste State as (Ctrl+C) and (Ctrl+V) respectively. On the Mac, that should be (Cmd+C) and (Cmd+V).
Good point, we'll fix it!

I've found no such file, unfortunately, neither using Spotlight nor EasyFind.

The only Tokyo Dawn Labs folder I can find contains the manual, nothing else.

Might the installer script have some problem, perhaps?

The file is automatically generated by the plug-in (not by the installer) in order to store your settings and presets. It's located somewhere in your (possibly hidden) Library folder I think. I'm afraid I have have no time to check the exact path name on a mac right now. But it seems it is messed up somehow and needs deletion (but really make sure to send me the file before!).

Both Vlad and me had a closer look at the code and plugin and really found nothing so far. We both suspect a problem with the config file, maybe invalid XML content or something similar. Sorry for the show-stopper.

Hi Fabien,

Thanks for the efforts. I just solved it, after some pondering.

It's a permissions gotcha.

The Tokyo Dawn Labs folder is located at root level in the current User Library, where items created by apps should be given Read and Write permissions for the user in question.

But SlickEQ apparently doesn't do that and, since there are no permissions, the Global.conf file can't be created and written to.

So, I added Read and Write permissions for myself as admin to the Tokyo Dawn Labs folder. Hey! presto, the conf file was then created and written to when I launched SlickEQ. Presets are now saved as expected.

I don't know if anything in this respect was changed between Snow Leopard and Mavericks (where SlickEQ worked correctly from the outset) but you might want to check that the folder is given full User permissions when it's created.

Best,

Joachim

Hey Joachim,

thanks for the help. We'll see what we can do for the next update!

@Edit: It was a chmod issue. We'll release a small update soon.

TDR VOS SlickEQ - Update 1.0.1 is now available from the Tokyo Dawn Labs page: http://www.tokyodawn.net/tdr-vos-slickeq/

1.0.1 Update
  • New AAX Editions (experimental, Win32 not functional).
  • Performance optimizations (+30% in some cases).
  • Value-displays now accept "," as decimal separator (in addition to ".")
  • Fixed rare denormal issues
  • User presets slots increased to 10
  • On a Mac, short-cut labels show "Cmd" instead of "Ctrl"
  • Preset code now uses the Plugin-name as root tag (the old format is still supported)
  • Show parameter units in GUI-less mode
  • Fix in mac install script bug which prevented the creation of user presets

Thanks!

Afraid the 'Windows VST (no installer)' link does not work.

Thank You for the update.

Swiss Army knife for eq-ing.

In Expectation for the GE version...

Thanks a lot for this EQ!

Just re-started a whole mix with this as the main EQ and the level matching alone makes this worth having in your plug folder, Can really speed things up!

Still experimenting with the different sound types, lots to play with.

Great plug!

Thanks for update. This plugin is always in use now!

Ok, here's an updated feature list:

3 bands as before, except that the mid band offer two different filter widths.
Hi pass filter with the classic 3rd order HP we had before or a special "bump" HP filer crudely approximating the typical tape-head "bump" Hi-pass effect.
Low pass filter, selectable 6dB or 12dB slope. Up to 40kHz of course
Tilt filter, +/- 3dB with parametric center frequency (within limits). Additionally, the tilt filter can be broken into a "V" filter!
More output stages.
New "Japanese" EQ model (aggressive).

As you can see, we dropped the fourth band. But the tilt filter offers potential for some really interesting work-flows, while still keeping usability/accessibility at a maximum. These new work-flows work particularly well with the new Japanese model.

We are working on new, less subtle output stage modes.

I'll soon post some shots of the new UI.
