Korg Minilogue

After having a look at the pictures and specs Minilogue seems t ohave only a dedicated Mono output. Not so great in year 2016 IMO, especially for a polyphonic synth. Anyway stereo output seems to be possible with the headphone output while you will need an adapter then.
I also do not understand why so many synths including more expensive ones are still sold without at least a simple channel aftertouch.
Love the real time controls in my Korg DW-8000 which are a joystick that could access 3 parameters (e.g. pitch, vibrato, filter LFO) and also aftetouch (vibrato, filter LFO, volume).
My Ensoniq ESQ-1 does not have built-in aftertouch (opposing to the more rare SQ-80) but it could receive aftertouch and use this for multiple mod destinations.
MY 3rd synth with a real analog silter is Waldorf Pulse 2 that could use aftertouch for a lot of parameters (while it does not include a built-in keyboard).
All 3 synths also have a stereo output (to be precise 2 line outputs for left/right) and in the ESQ-1 you could modulate the panning.

Nothing i can't replicate on my favorite freeware VSTi and few effects (except the custom wave shapes).

But that's not really the point of an analog hardware synth.Mutant wrote:@ The 2 Videos above: Some nice, some meh, some horrible sounds.

I just don't get why they fitted a keyboard on it.
For a polysynth, 3 octaves is limiting so the first thing players are gonna do is to hook it up to a bigger keybed
Would be better just to release it as a module, with the knobs, but without the keybed inbuilt

3 octaves is fine. Oct up-down switches are very useful. Minimoog didn't have much more than 3 octaves either, yet it was (still is) immensely popular.

I didn't read the whole thread; I wonder if the envelopes and the lfo are hardware (analog hardware) or implemented as software... I can't find any info about it (I'm just curious, it doesn't really matter as long as the synth sounds good).
Then I'd really like to hear some demos though a nice analog chorus or phaser (I think I would use these fx often if I were to buy a polysynth).
I'm a bit vary about the features (only four voices, only lpf, ecc), but I understand they had to make some compromises to reach that price; on specs so far it looks like a really good deal.

Envelopes and LFO are all analog, I'd venture to say.

Actually I belive they're both digital. It doesn't make much sense in this day and age to do analog modulation. There was an image of the mainboard that revealed something that looked like a small micro processor per voice.EvilDragon wrote:Envelopes and LFO are all analog, I'd venture to say.
Basically any LFO that has a sync to BPM/Host function is digital. We all know Dave Smith does digital modulation. At least the Minitaur, the Sub Phatty, and the Sub 37 all have digital EG's and LFO's.

Minimoog isn't a polysynth, it's mono, you play with one fingerEvilDragon wrote:Minimoog didn't have much more than 3 octaves either, yet it was (still is) immensely popular.
A polysynth you want to play with both hands, three octaves is then limiting

I understand what you mean, but I don't agree when it comes to only 4 voice poly. You either play chords with one hand or solo, so 3 octaves in this case is enough. Imho of course.Numanoid wrote:Minimoog isn't a polysynth, it's mono, you play with one fingerEvilDragon wrote:Minimoog didn't have much more than 3 octaves either, yet it was (still is) immensely popular.![]()

Anything more than 5 voices and I'd agree regarding the kb.

It doesn't have more than four voices? I didn't realize. So one less than Prophet-5 then?eXode wrote:I understand what you mean, but I don't agree when it comes to only 4 voice poly.
Yeah, I agree with only four voices polyphonia, three octave keybed should be enough for "expressive" playing

According to maths, yes.Numanoid wrote:It doesn't have more than four voices? I didn't realize. So one less than Prophet-5 then?eXode wrote:I understand what you mean, but I don't agree when it comes to only 4 voice poly.

Guys, especially Numy
, this is a $500 analogue polysynth.
I repeat a $500 analogue polysynth.
A little bit of compromise was necessary don't ya think.
