Hmmm, so I thought I might just have a look at Cubase (Artist 9) again as this seems like such a good deal. Well, maybe not for me...can't even get the effing thing to open on my iMac. It actually seizes the whole computer, so does the Steinberg Download Assistant. Now, no such problem with Logic, Studio One 4, Reason 10 and Ableton Live 9. I will see if a clean install of Cubase makes a difference, but I am not holding out much hope...ah well

There might be something wrong with your machine. I am using it on a cira 2009 Mac Mini. Works fine. Perhaps try 9.5. also, try removing the assistant and reinstalling.jacqueslacouth wrote: Mon May 13, 2019 12:25 am Hmmm, so I thought I might just have a look at Cubase (Artist 9) again as this seems like such a good deal. Anyways, FWIW, it seems C 10 is better at CPU performance than C9.5. I just compared same project I am working on with C10. It imported without issues in 10 and uses less resources.

No, really, when I learned it I was pretty brain-damaged
still am. I find so often things I'm sure I was quick with which I have to struggle with today
The reason we don't get on, you and I is your arrogance and presumption, exactly like that.
No, I never worked with anyone who is such a serial bullshitter, or who presumes to tell people what their thought is when the problem is you don't grasp what it is they said really, but very quick to react and posture like you have it all sussed.
I have worked very well with all sorts of people artistically, from the not-highly skilled but open and responsive and enthusiastic, to absolute top virtuosi far beyond my own accomplishment as an instrumentalist.
Except for one close partnership as a duo, which was two people with rather different but totally complementary skillsets to bring so it was just 50/50 give and take generosity, I was always leader. I know how to motivate people and get perhaps their very best. I tend to inspire enthusiasm because I have ideas, which I'm able to convey.
I don't seem to suffer fools gladly.
Nice try at a backhanded bit of disrespect. Which typifies our exchanges from the very outset.
What have your achievements been working with people?
You would tend to have a real problem in leading people or to enjoy a generous give-and-take, that is with the kind of failure to listen to people you've shown me.

I'm less p.o.'d if it's happening to people other than me, but this is preposterous.
I always buy direct from Steinberg.
There's a company they work with that processes the orders.
It's painless, and just a matter of minutes before you get your codes.
Knock on wood, I haven't had any problems with it.
To me, it's not worth risking a hassle for a couple bucks.
Of course, you still have to download the actual program from Steinberg's site.

EDIT: I got very excited but now I have realised that Steinberg was already showing me prices in Australian dollars, so I've only saved $70 over buying from them, not the several hundred I thought.Musical Gym wrote: Sun May 12, 2019 10:41 pm Use code pa-cubase10 to get another 10% off Cubase 10 Elements, Artist, Pro and their crossgrade!

We've been doing a bit of collaboration lately and the other guys are on Cubase so this will allow us to work more seamlessly (I hate having to use stems for everything). Unlike my little foray into Bitwig, I am determined this time around to transfer the flag to Cubase from Orion. Four or so years after it was discontinued, there are just too many little issues cropping up that we cannot easily solve. We may still need Orion for Wasp, which we aren't quite ready to leave behind yet, but I don't want to be switching from one to the other constantly.

Literally anybody here qualifies for the competitive cross grade. Why would you go for the regular version instead?
And it's $280 at Steinberg's site (without VAT though).

I didn't see Orion listed as being eligible for a cross-grade and it is the only other sequencer I own. I had assumed Steinberg were showing me prices in USD but they were showing Australian dollars. NI and others make that obvious by putting "Au" in front of the dollar sign, Steinberg weren't doing that so I thought I'd be be paying one-third more than the price I saw. So I've ended up saving around Au$70 at Plugin Alley, which will pay for the stupid dongle.

I would suppose so which is why I'm kicking myself and irritated at the whole debacle.felis wrote: Mon May 13, 2019 1:48 amjancivil wrote: Sun May 12, 2019 3:57 pm I wonder if I'd bought it straight from Steinberg if this happens. Went to save four whole dollars. Kind of pissed with myself.

I already have it installed from the trial.
I should be able to get it for 50 bucks, but someone stole my account and that dongle with an unused activation for 9.5 and Steinberg reps repeatedly told me I'm SOL.
I don't have any qualifying product for crossgrade.

Jan, tomorrow you'll contact them, they'll sort it out and you'll be fine. Honestly, sweetwater is a good company to deal with, it's a mistake, chill.

Orion is a discontinued DAW and probably not listed for that reason. If you are in a situation like that it might be worthwhile to check in with JRR through KVR. Maybe he can do something. I understand that retailers are in charge of checking eligibility for the cross grade.

I'm trying to figure out if there is anything I'm missing that should cause me to pick up Cubase while it's at such a large discount. I'm using Reaper with Renoise for drum sequencing and scratch effects. I have Melodyne, so no need for variaudio and with Komplete I have almost everything I need.
Only advantage seems to be the MIDI editor which looks like perhaps the most full featured MIDI editor available. Hmm...
