Not sure if it's been posted but Airwindows released their CLAP version

https://www.airwindows.com/clap/

Although it's not working for me, the file just unzips into a folder and it doesn't show up in Bitwig.

If it doesn't have an installer you need to move the clap file(s) into the CLAP folder.
E.g. on Windows it is: C:\Program Files\Common Files\CLAP

I'm on mac and yeah that's what I did. As I said the file "Airwindows.clap" looks and behaves like a folder (I can see its content) so I guess there's something wrong with it. When I tried to unzip it from command line I got these error messages.

Code: Select all

Archive: AirwindowsClap.zip
replace Airwindows.clap/.DS_Store? [y]es, [n]o, [A]ll, [N]one, [r]ename: A
  inflating: Airwindows.clap/.DS_Store
  inflating: __MACOSX/Airwindows.clap/._.DS_Store
  inflating: Airwindows.clap/Contents/.DS_Store
  inflating: __MACOSX/Airwindows.clap/Contents/._.DS_Store
  inflating: Airwindows.clap/Contents/Info.plist
  inflating: __MACOSX/Airwindows.clap/Contents/._Info.plist
  inflating: Airwindows.clap/Contents/MacOS/airwin-to-clap
Maybe something to do with DS_Store file?

Hopefully it will get fixed soon.

Not necessarily. Quite a few VST3s I have installed recently, for example Serum, the .VST3 is a folder not a file, thus it's quite possible for CLAP plugins to come packaged in a similar way.

Potentially. Definitely my machine cannot read it.

My serum.vst3 looks like a regular vst3 file here

That's a bummer. Bitwig seems to be able to cope with it and loads/runs the VST3 as expected.

On macOs,all plugins are actually folders, just like applications. If you see it as a folder, it should still work fine, but it's probably missing a little ID file inside.

.DS_STORE files are the bane of my existence.... hate hate hate those things.
I started on Logic 5 with a PowerBook G4 550Mhz. I now have a MacBook Air M1 and it's ~165x faster! So, why is my music not proportionally better? :(

That's normal. The plugin will be a .dll living in the same folder as any ancillary data files.

Yeah I'm also able to run Serum.vst3 in Bitwig. What I'm not able to run is Airwindows.clap

Have you tried it yourself by any chance?

I don't have the Airwindows stuff. If my memory doesn't fail me, I'll try to install the CLAP components and report back.

Although it's not working for me, the file just unzips into a folder and it doesn't show up in Bitwig.
It is not really ready for prime time yet. It's Mac only, and only Apple Silicon Native. It will not work on an Intel Mac because it is not a universal binary. This is likely why it is not working for you.

You can avoid the .DS_Store file issues entirely by unzipping it with Finder. .DS_Store files store Mac metadata that is designed to be stored on the HFS+ or APFS file system itself. Finder's unzipper handles them correctly, and that is always what you should use when the zip originated on a Mac.

In any case, Chris's CLAP build works just fine on an M1/M2 Mac. I actually had it working a couple months ago, using baconpaul's script, but I had to compile it myself.

As for it showing up as a folder, that won't affect anything. But if it bothers you, you can turn it into a proper package by dropping in a proper Pkgfile into the Contents folder. Just make a text file named "Pkginfo" and put the following line in it:

Code: Select all

BNDL????
Drop that file into the "Contents" folder, and Mac will treat it like a package.

As for it showing up as a folder, that's because it is lacking a Pkginfo file. That's easy to fix. Just make a text file named "Pkginfo" and put the following line in it:

Code: Select all

BNDL????

I have been able to turn the folder into a bundle as you suggested but it's still not showing up in Bitwig for me. Have you had the chance to try it yourself?

EDIT I'm using a Macbook Pro M1

See what I wrote. Do you have an Intel Mac? If so, this won't work for you.

Turning it into a bundle makes no difference to Bitwig. It's just changes how Finder shows it.

Yeah sorry I edited the post afterwards. I'm using a MacBook Pro M1. Did you run the version on the link I posted or did you compile one yourself?
