Found the freeware Visions of Chaos also when I was looking for software to generate pics for 2CAudio Kaleidoscope; Visions of Chaos is very nice free complex image generation tool

Its been available for around 15 years but only recently became freeware.

I used to use it with Coagula before synthesis from images took off

Thanks for the links! Visions of C is working very well on my Mac using Crossover; nice:) And FilterForge looks fascinating, too… But I'd really like to see what sort of images from apps like these you guys are finding useful; in fact, can we maybe set up another thread or something like that for sharing? I love the idea of "drawing" to create these, but as I've indicated here already, most all of the image gen. apps I have make images that are way too complex to sound interesting as WTs, to me anyway; lots of fun fiddling and cool pix that all sound like subtle variations on an oatmeal mush of buzz!

Thanks for reviving my interest in this VariKusBrainZ, I hadn't "locked on" to the Genetic Algo the first time I'd seen Visions of Chaos, there's so many different algos in there - the Genetic Algo is exactly the sort of the thing I had been looking for, also for IL Harmor.
Makes sense now that you mention it only recently became freeware, it's a great program

Well, idea good, but it seems me that exactly this case - so to speak make WT "sound cards layout", an individual matter with very narrow profile, i mean - applicable only to a specific separate project. Or by other words - usefulness of this (share images) under doubt, exactly in the sense of applicability. But I could be wrong, just an opinion. (Maybe for some people it would be really useful)

Then understand why it is so cool (when i opened it at first i was surprised that this is free, really huge different possibilities).

By sharing I meant sharing on-going discoveries and understandings, not so much sharing tables; the whole point seems to be making one's own for one's own ends, of course, presumably with increasing control and understanding…towards which end, many hands make lighter work, no?:)

Enjoy !
This is a very welcome change.

Well, maybe you right.

@David

I use Krita. Free, not difficult to learn and really the best when it comes to drawing. As Falcon works with black and white images, you can experiment with what a white image does, and a black one, a checkerboard pattern etc. Then you can try out blur and sharp, small scale patterns and large scale ones.
That way you start understanding what does what.
Try to imagine you are creating series of curves, not visual artworks. Curves that can be can be triangular, square, but also complex and even chaotic.
Next you try to work towards a certain result and see whether your idea was right or not.

As the idea is indeed to grasp things on a deeper level so as to be able to do your own thing, nothing beats experimenting.

Thanks Erik, I've got lots of Mac-centric painting and manipulating tools and have been doing exactly as you describe, as I've been outlining in earlier posts here. I'd only add that the only thing that beats experimentation is perhaps a bunch of experimenters comparing results? …hence my suggestion:)

And that is a good suggestion indeed.
