^ Ofcourse, all of that applies to standalone. Like I said, I hate using a program this huge in a DAW.

I agree that daws have become dinosaurs and that some synths fit in like feet in shoes that have become too small. But what would be next? Create the entire project, save as audio etc?

I still find it sad that this FLStudio project seems to have been abandoned because it looks like what many of use would jump on:

You can do the same thing in Plogue Bidule no ?

Must look that up...
Thanks.

Looked it up briefly but Bidule seems more complicated to learn and directed towards creating synths etc. Minihost would, say, load Falcon and allow to use the piano roll on it. That was, if I am not mistaken, what Sound Author was looking for.

Yes Bidule can, but it really lacks a decent piano roll, you need to use a 3rd party vst really like Cthulhu etc.. The included Bidule step sequencers are a bit too win95 for my taste :) Other than that Bidule is incredibly versatile. What I like about Minihost is it's simplicity, and the way automation works is great/easy but it does need developing further ( I don't think it responds to midi clock which a big issue for me).

Erik - I use Bidule as an extension to my hardware stuff, you can build your own multi-timbral module using vsti's/fx, patch in all your soundcard inputs and then use a 32 track recorder to record everything to it's own WAVs ready to import into a DAW for mixing. It's really what I've been looking for for years to suit my workflow. I wouldn't say it's hard to learn really. I've personally not touched all the synth stuff.

This is my default setup I start with before adding VSTi's triggered by the Octatrack as an example:

Thanks. But when I look at this, I suppose it would be easier to open Falcon in Minihost.
Both seem to prove that there are more people who find that a daw is a dinosaur at work. Yet, at this moment we will have to continue with the beast.

BTW I have XFer's Cthulhu and is is a great tool, but it does not replace Cubase's KeyEditor. And it does need a host.

But we are drifting off. This is about Falcon.

MuLab is an easy on the eye DAW and may fit your need. It starts very fast and has a lightweight feel. (eventhough it's deep)

Also MUX Modular can help you out to do even more with Falcon.

Post

Thanks. I'll give it a look and, as soon as possible, also a try.
As you are present here at KVR, I'll ask evt questions over there.

Back to Falcon now.

also...
Usine Hollyhock is extremely cool:

and super deep and super stable.

i found another 'bug'

1. drag a sample into falcon
2. set the oscillator type to SLICE
3. click MAP on slice oscillator
4. multi-select the mapped keygroups that just got created and set their oscillator type to IRCAM GRANULAR
5. do a quick check to confirm that the start and end positions were correctly taken over by the IRCAM GRANULAR oscillators
6. without saving the program, either duplicate the track that falcon is on, or save and reload your session...
7. notice that the start and end positions in the mapped keygroups have now all been reset.

this behaviour happens in Reaper and also in Ableton Live.

Sound Author wrote:Well, I don't mean a full out DAW, but some way to draw MIDI notes would be a huge time saver. I hate using Falcon in a DAW and prefer to do everything in standalone mode. You can load MIDI into the MIDI player, but it would be nice to kick back with my laptop, draw some notes in a small editor and press play.

i also think this would be good. something simple... like a piano roll version of the arpeggiator that's already in falcon. that's a vague description, though i think i know what Sound Author means.

@the3ug3reeder
This will be fixed in next release. This regression was introduced with the new multi oscillator edit
Thanks for the report.

super cool Oliver, thank you!

Good to know I'm not the only one who dislikes using big programs like Falcon in a DAW. Same thing goes for Reaktor. Also, I'm still having issues with Falcon playing nice with FL Studio's plugin wrapper. But even if it snapped to the screen perfectly, I'd still hate working that way. It's like I'm trying to squeeze an elephant into a subway car.

Honestly to say, strange to hear it. For example i use only VST versia. In my opinion no problem with this way. (even on the contrary, i see a lot of benefits in combine with DAW).
