So sad... I remember when we were still making gold from lead.Sampleconstruct wrote:I am now organizing an encounter group for Alchemists, we meet once a week, each meeting begins with the inevitable "Hi, I'm "..." and I can not get over it", then we delete 666 Alchemy AU plug-ins on 666 Macbook Pros simultaneously, and then morph into each other while dancing around in circles holding hands. It helps...

Not that huge, but products such as rebirth, plex, firebird etc. By the way, one would not buy discontinued software for more than 10% of its full price. So, they usually become "free" in the second hand market (example: "sell this, add this for free").T-CM11 wrote:Anyone care to post that "huge" list of unsupported plugins that became free in a year or two (or more)?mhog wrote:I did not tell "you cannot use it", infact I confirm one can play it even in 2023 and beyond. But I can see well how all discontinued software products become "obsolete" very soon. That is the main reason why so many people are going to sell their copy of Alchemy now: they know well in a year or two nobody want to buy it. The same for the above mentioned products (Intakt, B4, Peak etc.). These discontinued synths (and software in general) never become "vintage" (as in "hardware vintage": moog, roland etc.). On the contrary, they lose value (usually becoming free in a year or two). This has nothing to do with sound quality, of course. I guess it has more to do with "out of fashion" outdated GUI, lack of support in case of issues, possible incompatibilities when new OS come out... etc.
Yes, this was a rhetorical question.

On the other hand though, one could argue that the scarcity of a discontinued product increases its value. Albino3 for example still holds its price when it occasionally pops up on the marketplace.mhog wrote:Not that huge, but products such as rebirth, plex, firebird etc. By the way, one would not buy discontinued software for more than 10% of its full price. i think Alchemy could be on the same spot, it has similar quality and i dont think users will stop throwing it in the daw as pad machine.
thought we already made the 200 pages ...

It always amazes me when I hear that x instrument is obsolete. I always start looking for an expiry date.dnekm wrote:I still use Atmosphere when I make music.... It is not obsolete. Spectrasonics may like you to believe that, however....
Sorry to go off topic, but the point is this - it will still work for you, so lack of support or re-sale value does not come into the equation here. As long as Alchemy loads and works, it will be a treasured instrument.

maybe omnisphere 2 with alchemy 2 engine? omnisphere lacks a really good audio input.

Any Macrumors reader will know that often the first confirmation that a company has been taken over by Apple is that their Linkedin update changes to their new employer. No sign of this happening yet for any of the Camel crew. Although I did find out that Ben G is two degrees of separation away from me in Linkedin. I feel that we are almost brothers.H-man wrote:Maybe there are some clues here?

Perhaps someone could try to link-up with this guy? I could do it, it's just, I don't want to.
I've mentioned before that Apple PR have two stock phrases to confirm or deny if they have bought a company when asked (and those phrases ain't "yes" and "no"!).
I sent a mail to Macrumors pointing them to this thread and the circumstantial "evidence" and rumours that point to a Cupertino takeover and asking them to get in touch with Apple PR to confirm or deny, but didn't get a reply. Maybe my mistake was pointing them to this thread ...

Cupertino is wise on this. Keep it on the D-low.

In the latest video from sonic state, the host mentioned that he was contacted by Apple and they said that they will not be exhibiting at namm but they will have a logic briefing. Not sure if this was mentioned earlier in the thread.
If that briefing contains any info related to alchemy or redmatica, this will be very exciting for users of logic.
