What a sad wanker. And how cool to be anonymous, eh?SSL wrote:Yeah, donating directly is the best way instead getting free musician publicity by making a CD to "help" poor victims of a natural disaster...
Shame on you.
For the record, we've raised over $4000 and nobody here makes a single cent. Run back into your hole in the ground and piss of someone who deserves it.

You've placed a lot of pre-orders, so I don't see how anyone can hate you.Parallel Worlds wrote: i hope that people do not hate me for this...

But the true kudos goes to those of you that have not only donated a piece of their heart but countless hours of time as well. FWIW every song of mine is a little piece of my heart, read my bio and see how this is a bigger piece of my heart then my other songs.
You all can and should be very proud, ignore his apparent bitterness. It's not my problem, or your problem, but his problem.
Sooner or later there will be someone who will also want to judge the songs themselves and some people will be hurtful with their statements, probably because of their feelings of inadequacy. Again who's problem is that?
The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

How very, very depressing. There has always been this school of thought that anyone who uses their work (whichever form it may take) to raise money for a good cause has an ulterior motive to gain publicity.
This project has been very positive since day one; after Resonance I was very honoured to be a part of it. What is publicity when nobody really knows who you are anyway? ...xander himself mooted the omission of his own track for the sake of the project's success over his name being on it. There was always going to be someone who would stoop low enough to sneer at what these guys are doing. At least have the common decency to keep your comments contructive without throwing your toys out of the pram.
Does Bob Geldof really give a crap about Africa? Does Jamie Oliver care about what kids are eating? Who knows. What I do know is that everyone who contributed to the project is an amateur; an enthusiast. Nobody's going to make a career out of this or be taken "more seriously as an artist".Mike Smash wrote:I do a lot of er, great work for er... charidee!

Jeez, we would have to have a troll or two...
Anyway, I don't know how many of you have ever had to organize a project that depends on 40+ artists delivering crucial components and managing a half-dozen others who work sans pay to create, QC, clear legal hurdles, market and distribute the end product and all of its collateral material. I can assure you that few other - if any - "charity effort" CDs that you see for sale now or in the coming months from established labels were made entirely with donated labor.
I can't speak for the others, but I can tell you I've put in over a hundred hours in the past month on this project - not including the song I submitted. I refused the prize I won from discoDSP so that it, or something of equal value, would be returned to the kitty in order to entice further sales. That appears to be forthcoming. I've also donated over two hundred dollars directly to Red Cross this year independent of this effort. I can't donate to every cause nor can I control every aspect of this project, but like many of the core team members involved with this, I've taken on extra responsibilities to pick up the slack for those who couldn't fulfill their commitments. Not only is it totally unpaid and often unacknowledged work, now it seems it's unappreciated. I'm sorry this isn't as instantly gratifying as some of you hoped. If you want better results, lend your time and effort, but give us a break: We're not all seasoned experts - we're doing the best we can. I don't know how anyone who understood the effort entailed by this endeavor could honestly cast shame upon us. I think we should leave the link from the website back to this thread as is. I have nothing to hide from anyone regarding the Chrysalid Project and I am not ashamed of my involvement.
If any of the rest of you reading this understand what I'm saying, whether you are a contributing artist or someone curious about the project, I hope you won't be disheartened about your contribution or dissuaded from trying to support either our work or any other relief project that you deem appropriate. Ignore the trolls and have patience. Trite as it sounds, doing something is generally better than nothing. And while we may not be profoundly affecting the people we are trying to help, we are doing something beneficial for everyone involved - even those who would criticize our ineffectualness. (At least it gives them something to bitch about.) Just so you know, I am the person responsible for the new website which has nearly a hundred pages and will hopefully grow in future. I am also apparently taking over design for the CD packaging itself and collateral materials such as t-shirts, web ads and other stuff as we need it. You can criticise my musicianship, my design, writing or management skills, but don't cast aspersions on me or my friends on the Chrysalid team's motives. I'll remind you all once again - we're not doing it for money, glory or self-promotion. We're doing it because we can. We have personal connections to the region and we want to help.

Well, the cd is not finished. So unless you'd like us to ship you two blank CD's with empty jewel cases...then please kick you're feet back and relax for a bit. Or focus the time you spend posting negative comments on something more productive.SSL wrote:No. In honor of all the wankers who are not delivering CDs to people.

The replicator will take 10-12 days to produce the cds. Then there will be a few days of shipping time.
So we are looking at the end of November.
Patience is the key. The end result will not go unnoticed.
