I Dream of Jeannie (Hugo Montenegro Orchestra)

Theme from M*A*S*H

Mission Impossible (In 5/4 meter!)

You'll laugh, but the theme from That Girl! (Breezy and fit the mood of the show perfectly - made me want to move to New York!).

When I look back and realize how many great themes there were back in the 60s and 70s, sadly, it dawns on me that current TV composers don't seem to be able to write melodies anymore (or it's just that the networks prefer that they don't). Anyone who grew up during 60s/70s can probably hum the themes from most of their favorite shows. I have a couple of favorite shows now, but would be hard-pressed to try and hum or whistle their themes -- and that's my point. They've moved away from hummable melodies to short "mood pieces" (for lack of a better description).

The other reality is that the networks now rarely allow more than a few seconds of intro music per show: Why allow two full minutes for a theme when you can use 90 seconds of that for commercials that bring in revenue? While I understand the logic there, it's still sad - and IMO only adds to the feeling of the MTV-like assault on the senses that much of network television has become.

IMO sanford and son is the ultimate theme song. I'm also rather fond of the fragil rock theme song.

I quite like the outro music for the current tonight show - surprisingly gentle.
MASH- nto may faivorite, but I believe it's from an actual song, "suicide is painless"

I forgot henri mancini. The theme from the pink panther is also a classic. Instantly recognizable and always fun.

Haven't watched TV in years so can't comment on contemporary stuff. But blasts from past would be -

Rockforfd Files
Twilight Zone
Ren and Stimpy
Banana Splits
Chorlton And The Wheelies
Hill Street Blues
Taxi
Northern Exposure
Steve.
I know I have got a negative edge, that’s why I sharpen all the others a lot.

Bewitched.
Munsters.
Twilight Zone. (I do the 'mingle-mangle-mingle-mangle' thing all the time when weird shit happens. :hihi: )
Dr Who.
Paul Oakenfolds Big Brother theme.
Old Grey Whistle Test. (Stone Fox Chase by Area Code 615)
The Tube.
Twin Peaks, yah!!
Roswell High. (I liked this from the first episode, well before anyone even knew Dido  It's still good - the only good track she did imo. Everything else just sounds like a rehash of this  )
World In Action.
Many many others, including probably Britains most instantly recognisable theme tune, Coronation Street. I once saw Six Hands In Tempo doing this live on just 3 acoustic guitars. Absotively fantabulous! I've never been able to hear it the same since. There's some good dub versions out there, too. Maybe one day I might try doing a techno version.

Most hated: too many to mention, but at or very near the top must be Heartbeat. :x

Yes, the song is by Johnny Mandel and featured in the original MASH movie in a scene where the dentist wants to kill himself.
