These aren't reasonable... I like the guy that posted after you because he at leaste pointed out which part was unreasonable... Your whole hypothesis was unreasonable because it was based on a series of nonsensical assumptions. No 'respectable attempt' was required given the completely laughable assumptions you had already used as the foundation of your little fantsay.LIMITAPROACHINGINFINITY wrote:

ericj23 wrote:$300,000 for programmers - so lets get this right you think sonar is made by roughly 4 people ?
i remeber seeing a computer moosic thing ages ago (i know i knwo i was on a train) which was about NI - they had something like 30 programmers
so try your test with the budget for programmers somewhere in the milions - might look a bit less baised then
RTFPC (read the post carefully).. Hey i kind of like that..whyterabbyt wrote:According to what? Some numbers you pulled out your ass?LIMITAPROACHINGINFINITY wrote: *Note that these figures represent the cost of developing sonar 5 based on the allready existing sonar 4.

I asume sonar is about 1/3 the amount of product line(in terms of hours spent developing-Most the other products ARE sonar without certain features so it doesnt take that much time to DELETE code.. )"
So that means that cake has roughly four times three = 12 programmers who some of may or may not play a role in developing sonar.
300,000 might be a little short but not by much when you consider its 300,000 for the UPGRADE additions from sonar 4 to 5.. Theres not that many features added. I think that even if there were only FOUR programmers exclusively working on SONAR alone, they could get it done in the time it took to upgrade version four to five..

I think i remember debating you sometime in the past and once again you will continually claim that i dont make sense but never specifically say why.> So take a number that you think is inacurate and let us both decide on a more reasonable one and we can adjust the costing formula appropriately. I asure you you will find that cake is still ripping you off.whyterabbyt wrote:Your whole hypothesis was unreasonable because it was based on a series of nonsensical assumptions. OK - furhter flaws - "20,000 for marketing" - so what you pay an office boy for 6 months of the year - creatinaly not getting any kind of marketing dept
50,000 for admin - so the cost for all the sonar helpdesks around the planet - the cost of opaying someone to organise the shipping of 20,000 upgrades is 50,000 - i think your 200,000 is extremely conservative
you pulled the numbers from your ass OK
you have nothing to base them on OK
still it's one of the better trolling attempts ive seen recently

Try putting some facts in next time. Otherwise there's no need to read it 'carefully' at all.LIMITAPROACHINGINFINITY wrote: RTFPC (read the post carefully).. Hey i kind of like that..

Which is just an assumption based on another assumption.
What 300,000 are you talking about? More assumptions?300,000 might be a little short but not by much when you consider its 300,000 for the UPGRADE additions from sonar 4 to 5..
Oh yeah, of course. A 64-bit port aint much, is it.Theres not that many features added.
Of course you do. But then you're basically ignorant of any of the appropriate facts, aren't you.I think that even if there were only FOUR programmers exclusively working on SONAR alone, they could get it done in the time it took to upgrade version four to five..

Yes being a software dev makes me ignorant.. Trust me, our company ripped off every company we ever sold our software package to. We ripped off our employees by paying them one tenth what they are billed out to clients at..whyterabbyt wrote: Of course you do. Listen whytrabit. You are all rhetoric. Your so concerned about HOW you sound when you argue.. My guesse is that your not good at math or thinking logically. I'm also asuming your good at drama and maybe were in the drama club(Yes im asuming again).
You might have been good at english... (vocab etc. punctuation) but not the critical thinking.. Which means that if you graduated from highschool, you might have done well in it, but if you went to college you most likely got lousy grades. But I dont think you did go to college.. So if you want to make this personal, i think i have demonstrated that i am willing to do so, but after this response i would rather stay on topic and actually give logical reasons why I am not being reasonable.. Like instead of saying:

Your response:
"Of course you do. But then you're basically ignorant of any of the appropriate facts, aren't you."
Your response accomplished nothing. A better response would have been an inteligent one such as:
"Well, converting 32-bit software to 64-bit takes major restructuring that makes the time to 'update to version 5' more like recoding a whole new software package'"
See how i did that? I was better at defeating my own argument than you were.
See you're response to that VERY last sentance would be something like this: "Of course you defeat your own arguments, your ignorant."
Which will make you sound unintelligent again.. So please enough rhetoric and more analytical thought.

Well this is rapidly deteriorating. Love Sonar, but I like to upgrade after they patch it at least once.

This is rather good. You are much more intelligent than whyterabit.. I think he should try your method because its actually inteligent.ericj23 wrote:OK - furhter flaws - "20,000 for marketing" - so what you pay an office boy for 6 months of the year - creatinaly not getting any kind of marketing dept

Your right some of those numbers might be fairly conservative but your forgeting that those asumptions were based on one third of cake's product line.. So, I mean that only represents SONAR's administrative costs which are about one third or maybe even a fourth of their total costs. Its a smaller staffed company than you would think.. I've called there several times last year and would pretty much know most of the help by name (All three reps at the time- they might have grown since then)
If you still think that those figures are conservative tell me what you think the cost of promo is, what the cost of helpdesk is , what you think the cost of paper filing is, payroll etc. Keep in mind they are very small relative to how popular their product is.. They have one office in Boston "down the road from mit" As one rep. put it.
He said "were a lot smaller than people think."
I dont specifically know how many employees though and would be interested to find out.

Uh, well considering the extremely basic c++ questions you asked over at the devs forum, I wouldn't wave with that flag...LIMITAPROACHINGINFINITY wrote: Yes being a software dev makes me ignorant..
Comparing EXT and Sonar is just silly, naturally a bigger company like Cakewalk/Edirol has a lot more organisational overhead than a one man business that distributes its software online only. Of course everyone is trying to make some profit but calling that a ripoff is a stretch, I think.
Now, since I haven't ordered my upgrade from 4PE yet, please stop spoiling this thread, as I'd like to hear some more about Sonar 5
