Nirvana were crap until Dave Grohl actually wrote the tunes. Have you heard "bleach" - what a pretentious pile of crap. They would be unheard of were it not for nevermind

he is rated though. he is "featured" in tracks that are all over numerous top tens.
the thing is, he's not that talented of a lyricist (hence his lack of live performances) and he doesnt even go near his productions.

Jbravo?
Dave Grohl didn't write anything on Nevermind and only had a hand in one song (Scentless Apprentice) on In Utero - and that's not exactly a "pop classic".
Dave Grohl writes mediocre pop for mediocre people; if it wasn’t for Nirvana he would be unknown.

You could say that all bands and singers that are signed up are overrated. Isn't that the job of record companies and publicists to overrate them. They give out publicity that makes mediocre musicians sound like they have grown an extra arm to play what some session musician played. Song writers become visionaries according to the interviews.
Of course this doesn't mean that they are bad, it just means that they are not as good as the hype suggests. I include some singers and bands that I like in this criticism.

My small list of overated:
Coldplay(pretentious pussy music...PPM. Isn't there this other band from england doing similar stuff...it's like some kind of new wave of brittish pussy music)
Much of Aphex Twin(sorry, I had to say it..the only songs I really care for are windowlicker, come to daddy, and 4...but then again, i'm not much into ambience)
Aerosmith(anything from the 80's and beyond)
All hiphop music(self-explanatory)
Most BT stuff
That's it for now.

okay I did some research and you're right. I assumed from the similarity with the Foo Fighters that he was responsible for the sound of Nevermind. But still "Bleach" was a pile of pretentious crap - but then it's hardly considered a classic anyway!Dunbar wrote:Jbravo?
