CPU Demand? I'd be interested in the library to use in Wusikstation.

I voted less than $100 cause it is nearer my buget at the moment.
Is there a mailing list I can sign up for so I can know when it out?
How long before release?
Great work,
Michael
I hope to release it near end of this month

What is the CPU hit like? After all it is SE.
That would help to determine a price!
Sorry! Just saw your post above.....10% to 40%....So we are averaging about 20% to 25%.....That is what i would expect from SE....Not good!

<$100
1) It's SE and some people will be less inclined to buy it.
2) You're a small developer and some people may be worried that support will go away.
3) There are some really good cheap/free products out there that fill this same niche (Cygnus anyone?)
4) We're all cheapskates.

2)i dont think that this has something to do with the price but okay - but why should i deliver +/- 2GIG of sounds for less than 100 bucks?
3)do they come with +/- 2GB of sounds?
4)me too

your maybe better off just selling the sounds. honestly people are pretty jaded about commercial SE synths seems like.
Whatever you do, good luck! The demos sound pretty good thats for sure

1) I'm not one of them but with all the comments I've read here, a lot of people look down on SE synths.sonicfire wrote:1)mhh... okay, yes. too bad...emdot_ambient wrote: <$100

2) Price does play into it. Same instrument by two small developers, one's $150, one's $20: the developers go away, withdrawing support. Anyone who bought the $150 instrument would be pissed, while someone buying at $20 one will go, "Pfft. It was only $20." Charge too much and some people simply won't take the chance. Consumers tend to expect more reliable service if they pay a higher price.
3) Irrelevent. If they fill the same niche as far as sound and features go, then they compete directly with your product. If you choose to do it with 2GB of samples and they do it with no samples at all, well, that's your choice, not the buyer's. I know it's a hell of a lot more work on your part, but that has nothing to do with the buyer, that's a business choice. If I could get a good quality, cheap or free grand piano emulator that doesn't run on samples, why would I spend extra money on a huge sample library? I'm not saying I favor one over the other but if you're competing against products in the features and sound arena, then you have to compete in the price arena as well. To justify a higher price (from the consumer's point of view) you have to either meet or beat the competition's price, provide a better quality product, or provide a product with better features. Right now, I'd say you match the sound quality of several cheap or free non-sample based products. Without more instrument details, I can't tell if you meet or beat them in features. But you're asking about price and I only have the sound quality to go on. Same quality should be same price.
Verdict <$100

No no no. sell the synth, with the sounds sonicfire. synthedit is out of beta status now...so it's all fair game. Plus, alot of synthedit stuff contains custom coding, etc.., so sell it dude...no less than 100 dollars. You've practically given away everything else you've made....it's not your problem if the price doesn't fit someones budget at the moment. Do you really think any of the big companies got where they are by charging 30 dollars for all their products? Don't cheapen your product due to kvr pressure sonicfire...you can't please every customer...and you never will please every customer...in fact...you may only please half of all that are out there....but the fact is, that the half that paid good money and was satisfied with their product, will USE that product and defend it publicly as well in most cases. You charge whatever you feel your product is worth, within reason....and 100 dollars is more than reasonable for a synth with a two gig sound library.

I wouldn't buy this product for $100. That's not to say your 2GB on sounds isn't worth it, but the fact that the ROMpler runs in SynthEdit is just not doing ti for me. *Prepares to get flamed* but I just don't get into SynthEdit stuff, although there has been the occasional free SE plug that's interested me but I've eventually taken them off my system because of problems like high CPU hit and poor usability/interface. Note: I'm not saying all SE stuff sounds crap, but I've always noticed CPU hits on SE stuff and you have to question whether the sound is worth it for the hit you're getting. Note2: yes, I realise that many commercial products also have a high CPU hit, but I generally avoid them unless they are really special
If you were to develop a ROMpler front end coded outside of SE (assembly or something) with a sexy GUI, you would have a ROMPler similar to those ones that cost lots and use a Kontakt player.
My point: get rid of the SynthEdit idea, code for efficiency so the CPU hit is reasonable, have a sexy GUI - and then you have every right to charge more than $100
Just trying to be honest with you here

There are an increasing amount of different sounding synth edit VSTs with good CPU use, Minimouge, Evol etc. It is certainly possible for this product to be worth $100. But too early to judge untill I can try a demo and have better idea of the full sample content. If the samples come as wav then it adds value to the product as they can also be used elsewhere. 2GB of good sample content could be worth $100 alone.
I do agree that the issues raised above are factors in suitable pricing for the product. We dont know enough of the details to be sure what price we think is reasonable though. The details could make all the difference.

I agree with that. My comments were only to give you an idea of how I believe the buying public will respond. But, then, I'm no marketing genius ('cause if I were, I'd be making a living off my music and could afford your product even if it came out as $399!). You set the price where you think it should be, and the public will let you know soon enough if they're interested.TotcProductions wrote:...You charge whatever you feel your product is worth, within reason...

ok, i´m really thinking about releasing this stuff as an sampling-DVD / CD!
the only thing i´m not sure about it, which formats it should be available in.
but lets face it: a set of samples in different formats would be much better because i could reach more users then - everyone could use his/her fav. sampler (and of course pc / mac!)
