Thanks, but not right now. I won't be buying it any time immediate. I'll probably wait until the beginning of the year. By the way, that plugsound 4 I bought from you is absolutely great. The new york stylistic kits are very nice.

Big bang for the buc is Magix Music Studio (current version is "10"). I find it to be quite stable and capable. I do not like the company nor its lack of support, but software is great. Even some who invested in their mega-expensive Samplitude use it for their MIDI work. I believe the URL is http://www.magix.com
Edit note*-- You could get a the previous version (2005) from a retailer for $25 US or less. The MIDI Studio part of the software has not changed significantly as it is derived from Logic.

Love it is that makes the world go round. It is the music of the cosmos.

This is an important piece of information...I don't think you can run any of the current hosts on 98. You'll need to upgrade your OS to XP first. No name wrote:I just tried to d/l the demo of project 5, but it doesn't run on 98.
I am partial to SONAR and Project5. My vote is for either.
I'm glad the c major scale was invented before copyright law

The Ableton Live demo is not time-limited at all.No name wrote:How many days is the limitation to Ableton Live? Anyone know? I can't find any info on the site.
The main limitation is that you cannot save/export/render from the demo version. Also a few minor things, such as you only get the default skin rather than the large selection that come with the full software.
Two points with the Live demo:
1. As somebody said above, you really MUST go through the tutorials that appear in the right hand section of the GUI when you first load up. Later on you can also still access these from the Help drop-down menu if you wish. Live is fantastically fast and easy to use, but only once you have realised that it is different to *the others*
2. The Simpler and Impulse instruments are a part of the full version of Ableton Live, but Operator is only a demo (a bit like some of the instruments in FL5) which required unlocking seperately if you really like it (I do, and did!)
Of course, no KVR thread of this kind is complete without me popping by to remind everyone that imho Ableton Live is the most fantastic piece of music software currently available on the planet

Does it - oh I didn't know. Sorry!
(I don't think previous versions did, although I'm thinking back to Live 2, which is when I got on board)

waiting 10 or more seconds for a simple "duplicate events" sucks big time thoughheadquest wrote:Live is fantastically fast and easy to use, ...
(still Live is my sequencer of choice at the moment as well)

I think that Podium is worth to try. Only 90$, and a GREAT pro possibilities (with hardware too).
Beside this, support is great; Frits (author) is very fast and helpful, and he is really professional programmer

Eeverything i've tested runs on 98 except for project 5. I did test live some time ago, and i'm hoping I can re-test to really get in depth with it and see what it is like. I don't know if podium is my thing; however, I do need to redownload energy-xt to see what it is like. I deleted it the first time because it was so different from everything i've used.

Speaking as a longtime (mostly former) ACID user, I found Sonar to be a seamless leap from ACID, with very familiar handling, and a great program to learn more advanced MIDI/DAW features. My vote for Sonar...
...But with a tight 2nd to Live. Live is a really cool app - killer for hip-hop, etc and I'm thinking of getting into it...but I just can't figure out what the hell the "Session View" is and why you need it...but I digress...
