Tracktion is fine for audio, but for anyone who will be doing extensive midi, it is not so good.
Actually, I've found the reverse to be true... particularly since v2.
I agree with both of you in part... yes, MIDI fairly sucked in Tracktion 1. And yes, audio fairly sucks in Tracktion 2. I don't agree that MIDI is better in version 2 though - I found it still to suck :hihi: . But that's just my experience and opinion... others such as my friend Lunch Money here have had excellent experiences with Tracktion.

This is actually a thread that could run and run, because -
* lots of people here at KVR have left Cubase becuase they had problems with it of one kind or another... and...

Interestingly though, you don't tend to come across many pissed off defectors who have left Ableton under such circumstances

musiclinks: It's good to collect some opinions of course, and you've read enough here to know that Tracktion has bugs that have been left unfixed for three years, which is pretty crappy. However, make sure you try the demo for yourself... you might just love it :)

It's an unfortunate fact that some of T's bugs need an engine overhaul before they can be fixed (ie. dropped first note bug). Can't argue with that one. Dunno whatcha mean about the audio, though. Audio is clearly still T's strength, and has only gotten better with the addition of looped audio recording. :?

The development team that's working on Tracktion is extremely responsive, despite public perception. I wish Mackie were more of a presense at KvR because it's my favourite virtual pocket of the world, but really... we ARE a relatively specialized group of folk here.

I use T2 for orchestral writing which is obviously all midi , and I generally like the workflow. There are many ways in which it could be improved, but the midi editing suits me well.
Every day takes figuring out all over again how to f#ckin’ live.

Has anyone made the move from Cubase VSt to Tracktion?
I'm contemplating moving to Cubase SX but I've been reading that Tracktion is quite good and may have the features I require for television and movie composing as well as song writing.
Thats exactly what I did! I still use Cubase VST for general midi programming, but everything else is done in Tracktion now, and I love it :D

Probably the best advice you can get - try all of them for yourself, see which one suits you-

Hey, Lunch Money,

No offense meant. I may have sounded nasty without having meant to.
