Live instruments and how I've missed them

making music is all i've ever wanted to do. I don't care if anyone else hears it. I make music I like, for me to hear. I've discovered that I'd rather make a soft synth and have someone else use it rather than be like - listen to this thing i wrote- ? I don't know if that made sense. whatever... worktime.....

when you do that, are you able to come up with an original idea and move beyond the loop so to speak? like, uhh... it would be cool to start from "planetrock" (cool tune,they were jamming with kraftwerk to make it!), and then kill the loop and build your own tune...is that you are describing?

yeah i recorded the drums listening to a loop of the beat only, not the whole tune... and then killed the loop once the drums were done. the loop is only there to replace the metronome. its a funky beat so it will have have had some influence on what i played which is the reason i thought it a good idea to play with something that suits the style of tune i was trying to make. having said that the drums i recorded sound nothing like planet rock at all, its just a funky assed beat

it could be interesting to play along with any loop of any style... i just used it cos i can't stand metronomes

the drums in my tune were really loose, nothing like the planet rock beat more like hard jazz funk with a bit of swing to em. i feel really familiar with planet rock and because its a metronomic beat i know where i am all the way through... if i was to play along with a live drum break i find that they can modulate tempo a lot so you end up chasing them towards the end of the break and then having to awkwardly slow down when you come back to the beginning.
