this is what aggravates me. too many folks see the GUIs and think "oh what a stupid trick to get people to pay attention". so if i wrapped my hard work in a bland-assed boring grey box and filled it with symmetrical knobs and levers, then they'd take it seriously? damn that. to me, VST is ART. you don't make a hotrod and then leave it sitting in f**king primer, do you? i like to airbrush mine and put ground effects on it damn it. i wish more devs would do the same.

okay so maybe a lot of folks think i'm an ass for speaking my mind, and that's fine. i wouldn't bitch if -no one- had bothered to give a damn enough to download the new plug. but, -many- did bother. so obviously if the plug looks interesting enough to garner your attention long enough to download it, does saying something in return costs -you- so much time? i'm racking up almost $30 a month on bandwidth just on freeware downloads alone, that costs -me- money to give -you- free stuff, that is -not- bullshit.
when you download freeware, take a moment to think about how much work went into it. that developer spent -who knows- how much time developing that piece of bitkit for your grubby little mits, and if you actually like the plug, you could at the very least tell them thank you.
i don't even really ask for -thanks-. i'd rather see quality feedback, like i like "this" or "that" but i dont' like "this" or "that" about the plug. how can a dev get any better without constructive criticism? let alone praise.
ask yourselves, where did Tweakbench go? what happened to all the ArcDev stuff? why did ePhonic stop? why did Insert PIZ quit making fantastic synths? what happened to Land of Cockaigne? would Rurik be living in a motherfucking pig farm right now if every single person who downloaded one of his plugs bothered to send him a measly five dollars? no, he'd probably own his own software company right now, making the most fantastic VSTs to ever grace our DAWs. and don't you dare say some silly shit like "he'd own a salvia farm ha ha". Rurik got beat up and thrown in a mental ward because he believed people are better then they really are, and spent his money and time persuing that dream.
do you really think companies like Native Instruments, or Waves, or Arturia, or BigSoftWareCompany-X, will ever, in a million f**king years, give you something as unique and forward looking as GlitchGirl-NEO, or an XOXOS plug, or an Oli Larkin machine? HELL NO. so unless you like the idea of learning SE yourselves or spending hundreds of bucks on whatever new plug the bigsoft's shit out at you, then you should take a moment to step back and thank the little guy once in a while. because if you haven't noticed over the course of the last two years, there are less and less little guys making cheap, or even rarer yet, -good- freeware plugs out there.
the future of the VST evolution is in YOUR hands, NOT the developers. if you want unique and interesting stuff, act like it. being passive will only get you boring expensive bullshit.

I NOW will make a tune,as the the work of developers have inspired my output. I'm sorry I mis-spelled your Glitchgirl-NEO. I rely on my pis-poor memory too much.
Sincerely, thanks for your work, Jack... and if I hadn't spent so much on some samples from Duru.. I would have just bought something also...
I Support the efforts of the developers and music-makers as much as I can..
Your work is allowing me how explore splicing and glitches in ways I never imagined.
peace...

When a developer is developing something that is truly unique and off-the-wall, they need quality feedback more than they need financial restitution... for freeware at least. The more detailed info you can give back about how the plug performed for you, what you liked/didn't like about it, what you would add/take away from it, things like that. Devs need heads to bounce ideas off of, not just yes men or PayPal donations.

As I stated I try to keep my kit minimal - concentrating on what I paid for & a few freeware 'essentials' (which I give props for when the opportunity arises).
This thread piqued my interest & i've now downloaded your glitch girl series & will at some point in the near future give them a shot, may grab the distortion ones also & have a fiddle.
As for shit loads of peole downloading & not saying thanks etc. - I used to grab anything that came along & just whack it in a folder to try out at some point in the future, I've now got a folder full of hundreds of fx & synths that I can't even consider auditioning.
Maybe others do the same, grab things just in case they may give them a try at some point in the future?

Up untill today, I had never heard of any of these plugins. For that, I feel ashamed, and downright awfull. These are fckuning amazing plugins! I am already finding a use for them in many projects that had come to a stand still. I normaly don't get much on christmas...But this, is quite the treat.

I listened to the demos on this one and decided that It wasn't for me, but I like the way that JackDark has made his own niche with the GUI's as I mentioned in the SplatterShot (sic) thread..
I sort of feel Jacks 'pain' with the lack of feedback.. I am not going to speak on Jack's behalf but rather from my own..
Each new release brings with it a sence of anticipation that it will create a 'stir'. Cygnus did this for me as did Karnage (but mostly due to some inventive bumping by Kriminal
)
I've mentioned before about the oxygen of feedback for freebie and SE devs.. We probably all like to feel that we've made an impact and get dissapointed if we don't.. My last two releases got reasonable thread counts and good comments but, perhaps that was because I continually built up expectation with demo mp3s and got some cool people on-board beforehand..
I say to Jack however, that to look at it from the users side, in any one week there might be 20+ new plugs announced or released.
You might typically be competing for post traffic with Zebra2, an HG Fortune Synth, A new release of FL Studio, and a dozen or more other Free or SE synths and effects.. I think the reason that you get a lot of downloads is because you've done such a distinctive job with the GUIs.. They look intruiging and the hints about easter eggs etc. will make users want to download them to find out what it is all about.. of those, of course, a proportion will also want to keep the plug-in, once their curiosity is satisfied..
I say keep it up.. try to reconcile yourself to the fact that a lot of users will download everything in sight and very few will actually use anything that they download for free, irrespective of the DEV..
It goes without saying that if you were charging for these, then only seriously interested users would commit to the download, but there is a lot to be said for building a reputation with free releases, so my recomendation would be to not give up on it entirely..
I hope you take this post in the spirit in which it was intended -- from one who had been there and who had wondered if it was worth it and come out the other side, and decided it was, and now I get people sending me tunes done with my stuff and that makes me feel pretty good about things..!

is a song where I used batteryacid and OctoEcho.
OctoEcho is used on the last guitar bit
Battery Acid all through the breakdown in the middle, you can really hear the bitcruching in stereo.
Keep making the plugins and leave them at the competitive prices, and I'll keep buying.
I haven't downloaded GlitchGirl-NEO, just finished with school late yesterday. I will be enjoying it later tonight.
Thanks for all your hard Work.
edit:
If bandwidth is an issue I could host some of your free plugs. I've got 60 gigs a month.

I haven't downlaoded this it's not my bag but thanx for developing the freeware none the less.
Some of US do genuinely appreciate all you FREEWARE DEV's and the hardwork you put into releasing what you release.
I'm sorry to hear there where so many d'laods and really not many thanx in return
.
I know I shouldn't apologise for other peoples bad behaviour.... some people don't know gratitude or appreciation from their own arsehole I guess
