To me it isn't similar to Spectralive. It is closest to BBE but doesn't seem to drop down the midrange impact much, if any, and is smoother in the newly clarified high frequencies. It is much, much better than the (barely passable) BBE plugin, IMO. Another example of something they could be making money off of, so get it for free while you can.

I will be using this frequently where I had previously used BBE.

Thanks a million to D.B. McClain and Refined Audiometrics. 8) 8) 8)

All in all, I think this is the best sounding freeware exciter around (esp. the low end). Great for making tracks alive for headphone listening. Thanks for releasing it!
Have you gotten their 3 band EQ yet? It's still available by writing to them until the end of this year. Definitely do it if you haven't yet, and consider donating.

Page is down. =( Too bad, I'd have loved to try it, especially considering how great PLParEQ is.

Bad links to the downloads in the e-mail from David. I've sent him a note, suspect I'm not the first one to do so.

They just put out a brand new web site, so any links to the old site are broken. Just go to:

http://refinedaudiometrics.com

It should be simple to navigate to the product pages from there.

Everyone.....check out the CLAS-NR at the site!
It incorporates "a sliding-filter Noise Reduction unit ahead of the CLAS processing".
In other words, in the tradition of "Dolby-B and Dolby-C noise reduction encoding".

Not free but 30 days to try.

Hey, somebody's graphics skills are getting better. :P :hihi:

This looks great. I'll probably pick it up eventually, since I feel like I'd like to pay for this one (I've donated for the 3 band) and it's affordable.

 The NR sounds like ass over here. All snap crackle pop on the lowest setting and washy envelopy with nasty sizzle static on the highest. Blah! Sounds pretty good with the NR off but pretty subtle as far as my tastes go. I'd use it as a bonding agent/fingerprint to make several tracks stand out as a set. But forget the NR! WOAH (trash)!

Looks like it adds phasing 'problems' though so probably would be a good idea for people making vinyl.

This thing is great.
I have a thing for exciters and as such have searched long and hard for them and realised that they are realy pretty useless in mastering.

This beast is very useful as it brings clarity without the false impressions.
I shall be reading more about it to see what it really does as this is truly great.

I didnt have much success with the NR either, maybe David can explain where it is most useful.

Anyhow thanks David.
