From some of the models? Yes, I do know what to expect (like the punchy mids of the API impulses I've imported, the bottom present on the LA3, the Neve and tape impulses, etc). This is why I said earlier that I tend to use less EQ when mixing through ColorTone. Nonlinearities aside, these babies have tons of character. The inclusion of the "warmth", "color", "mode", and "blend" options enables you to dial in greater depth of tone - as you already know.bduffy wrote:So in terms of EQ'ing: do you know what to expect from each model - like, LA3 on drum bus, SSL on main - or are you just going by ear?
The other modes, I play by ear as I have way too many impulses (but that's a very welcome convenience).
I also change up often (in regards to which instrument(s) go through which model) according to the material. The main buss is usually treated with the subtler ones though, like Vmoo, SSl, or 1272 and sometimes even the Tube Limiter impulse. But again, it depends on what degree of color I am after. I don't want to say use this on that, out of fear that some will take it as law.
