man, that bugs the hell out of me too. i know he likes sticking to the midi standard, but i just dont understand why he wont give us the option of switching between the standard and totally free use. thats a big block of CC's that are currently completely useless for almost everyone. :x

a few weeks ago i used dave haupt's midi learn system to make myself a little midi CC converter. the idea was to use all the knobs on my microwave XT as a midi controller (since i dont own anything like a behringer BCR2000.) i got it working fine...except that a whole bunch of the knobs on the XT use CC's 32-63. (grumble grumble)

but at least the converter i made is useful for some things. (like the extra mod wheel and vector controls on my WSA1.)

Please re download the zip file.

Scratch Slider: CC#31
Scratch hold (mouse click): CC#92 (value range 0 to 1...or any other possitive value)

When hold is ON the wibble effect is out, the scratch slider is smoother again, but consider raising the "smooth knob" because you still can hear the 0-127 MIDI stepping.
Wow, that was quick :D

It works fine. The only thing that doesn't work, is the Start and End times. When using midi controller, they are ignored.

I'm dusting my video camera off as we speak ;)

oh, and sx3 now crashes as soon as Sxratch is loaded :(

im not running into any crashing problems when loading (in SL3) but i am loosing sound when loading a sample, and leaving to another window (such as this one in IE) and returing to cubase while this loss of sound is happening is causing cubase to lock up.

however, it was runing fine with the default sample as well as playing back what it had recorded.

Tons of fun :hail:

(not bad for someone who had never scratched until an hour ago!! ;))

Really cool Rozzer!!!!, thanks for that video, it's ok to you if I post it on my website?

Sorry about the crashes and lockups...I'll see what cause them, but I have no clue really, it works fine in FL studio.

BTW: Don't load it as a VSTi...here it causes an access violation on FL.

Ugo: Try disabling Sxratch then enabling it, and while you leave the window, try disabling it.

I suspect this has something to do with the "SamplerSnatcher II" module, which is very beta (v0.6)

Yeah of course Spyro :)

Do you think it'll be possible to make the Start/End points work with midi controller?

Post

I've just figured out a way where you can use the little mute switch on the Kaoss Pad for the note on/off too. Rules :D

Notice that the range doesn't affect the upper slider, I mean that slider will move always the same, but you will notice on the "measuring (scope) slider" that it moves differently, for example if you set the END slider nearer to the start point you'll see the yellow cursor is limited in the scope slider even if you move the scratching slider all the way to the end.

now works flawless with the modwheel. great work!

Actually, its the other way round here. The range affects the upper slider, but not the lower one. meaning that no matter what the start and end parameters are set to, a cc# range of 0-127 will always travel from the beginning to the end of the entire sample.

It works as you describe if I use the mouse, but not if I use cc#31.

Post

I just checked what you described, and yes, is the most strange thing I ever saw, it has absolutely no logic, no matter the scale, the upper slider should behave the same way....as it behaves now, it looks like MIDI is actually controlling the lower slider rather than the upper one.

I'll keep digging to see what causes it, or if there is some workaround.

For now, you can just scale the MIDI CC from your KAOSS pad instead.

Post

Hey Spyro can I ask a favour ? Can you add an option to add a MIDI note as a cut : I find it more logical than the other way around (having to play a note to hear the sratch). One great about analogX scratch was the cut featured on the right mouse click, while it wasn't cool hamering the poor mouse, it was very effective rythmically.

Post

Yes I can do the cut instead of play, but I cannot use the right mouse on SE (not that I know)
