That's like Philharmonik for me - I bought it based on demos, confidence in Squids et al, and reviews. I am not at all a fan of dongles, but I was willing to do it for IK/SR (actually, they're the first company I was willing to do C/R copy protection with, too). I give them credit for using the syncrosoft dongle rather than the Pace Ilok, that would've been a different story.TeleJuan wrote:I ordered CSR based on reviews I'd read and the demos on their site and was a little afraid of the dongle, since there's so much ranting about it. Truth is, I got CSR 2 days ago and it's so frigging awesome that the key is now the last thing on my mind... I installed it and had no problems with it since. I did have to buy a hub but, other than that, I don't see what the big deal is. If the software is worth it (and CSR is!) I don't mind connecting one more little thing to my PC...
Right now, the only reason I haven't demo'd CSR is that I *know* I'll buy it if I do.

Squids has stated that since the copy protection goes with the dongle, not the PC, it can be installed on multiple machines.Broken wrote:If IK makes it possible to have it installed on two machines being used at the same time, then I will buy it in a heart beat
Even when they used machine-specific C/R protection, they let you have three "automatic" authorizations.

IIRC, there was discussion comparing the two on the Cakewalk boards - I know one "major player" reverb was compared.brok landers wrote:anybody directly compared it to the artsacoustic reverb?
how does it compare (if one can compare these anyway as they seem to have very diffrent approaches), what do you think, honestly?
i don't own a cubase dongle, so i'm not able to test it, thats why i'm asking ...
Edit: Correction, it was the UAD Plate 140 reverb, not Artsacoustic. Here's the discussion from CSR there: http://forum.cakewalk.com/tm.asp?m=720964

I tested the CSR demo a few times, so here is my (short) review ot it:
- it's a good reverb, especially for vocal, ac guitars and drums. There are many parameters to shape the sound. It can sound a bit metallic sometimes though...
- for classical or film music however, I wasn't impresed at all. I think GigaPulse sounds much better for example, it has more depth and is more natural sounding than CSR.
Depending on what style of music you are doing, it may be what you're looking for. But I don't think it's the one solution reverb... or the last one you're going to buy.
If you don't already have a good reverb, and if SIR or PristineSpace and the impulses you can find on the net are not enough, then I recommend it.
Otherwise... next!

To be fair, Gigapulse is a convolution, and not an algorhythmic. Gigapulse with the right impulse is simply incredible though, and the best 'verb I've heard. Most algo 'verbs I've heard suffer from the metallic problem though, so I can't say I'm surprised. Still need the time to demo this thing though.Melodioso wrote:- for classical or film music however, I wasn't impresed at all. Are there any presets available for the demo that would highlight certain aspects of this reverb? I'm comparing to masterverb 5 and a few others but so far I can't seem to find any settings that really make it stand out beyond those. My feeling though is that I'm just not using it correctly and but i'm shortly closing in on my 25 uses so i'd like to wait til some presets are available to see what someone who knows what they're doing has done.

What will you all do when you have more dongles than USB inserts?

In all fairness, it is 400 dollars, couldn't they have at least included the dongle for free?

you can put more than one license on the same key.No name wrote:What will you all do when you have more dongles than USB inserts?
They do include a dongle when you buy CSR, it comes in the box.

Either stop using other dongles, buy a USB PCI card, or use a USB hub. Hubs suck. I've had a lot of problems with them and dongles/devices in the past, even when I've provided power to the hub externally. No name wrote:What will you all do when you have more dongles than USB inserts?
