About Cubase SX. I noticed that steinberg advertises only SX 3.1 as being capable of handling dual core. My question is how much is it really an improvement over let's say an equivalent single core cpu?
And how does older versions (sx2 for example) handle dual core?
I have SX 2 running on my dual core system. It spreads the load out no problem. In fact, it even chekced the multiple CPU box for me as well. How much of an improvement over single core? Significant.

No. According to the FL forum all audio is processed on a single CPU or core and all instruments are assigned to that core.
All I need to be happy is one more VSTi.

It's in one of the Tools menu options. I'd have to go digging for it. Right now, my Cubase SX install is corrupted, so I can't even launch it. :(

Try to find it, since I've never seen anything like it. Is it in Cubase or in the installation?

It's in the installation. It's under teh area where you can select MIDI ins and outs, VST's, etc. I think it's called Device Setup? Again, not something I normally go digging for since I only needed to turn it on once. ;)

About 30% on my AMD 3800 (2 x 3200), vs my Single processor 3200. I also have an iMac Core Duo running Windows XP that positively smokes both of them while operating with 1/3 the ram.

there IS A benefit to running multi processors with FL.

there are 2 threads, one for the engine, and one for the GUI -- not only that, but i discovered, when you add new effects it throws it on differentprocessors.

it works really well with dual processors actually.

It's been over a year - I don't really remember what was in the installation. :P
Does it mean I need to reinstall cubase for it to work with dual core cpu?

Err I meant to say it's NOT in the installation. :? It's in one of the menus on the right hand side drop tops along the top. I believe in Device Setup.

Weren't you the one who was having problems with performance with the off-the-shelf HP box though? I have seen a 300%-500% improvemement in perfromance between my 2.53Ghz Intel to my 3800+ X2 processor. Projects that were hitting 100% now max around 30-35%.

In SX3 its Device Setup / VST AudioBay / Expert / Multi Processing

SX2 is slightly different, VST AudioBay is called something else. I forget what....

Not for my Dual Core AMD 3800 box. Performance is greatly reduced in Reason, FL Studio, and Orion on that box from the performance I get on the single processor AMD 3200 box. But Cubase performs well on that box. FL runs very well in Windows XP on the iMac though. Amazingly, Windows itself runs much better on the iMac than I've seen it run on any PC I've bought with XP.
