Basically the amps only work from around 7ish to 10, anything less is goofey. I'm driving through an old pre that I have, so the signal is pretty much crystal clear and level maximized going into my Delta 1010.
I think that's actually a huge problem with all the modellers I've tried so far though. I don't think I've ever turned my Twin up past 5 (I've got the more modern 3 channel Twin Amp, not a Twin Reverb BTW) and that's already at ear blisteringly loud levels. When I mic it up I never go anywhere near that loud. The PodXT responds pretty much the same as what you're saying about AT2, in that even a good clean Fender will sustain and push with the volume at 4, whereas the clean models on the PodXT don't sound like they're sustaining as much as normal amp would under those same circumstances.
I'm sorry this post wasn't about techno.

As far as high gain expert, you need look no further than I!!!! I did some demos with Amplitube 1 a while back and I will post here so you can see, I Know it isnt AT2, but if I got it in AT1, you should be able to get it in 2 eh? I personally dont like the amp sims and will always continue to put a mic in front of my amp for final recordings, but I almost liked this, becasue it sure is fat and sounds real close to me. The "air" is there and that was alwasy a factor for me. I will get them up soon, I just wanted to post here, so I would remember to do this.. later. BY the way, I will get it up by tonight.. later

Well, that's my problem. I run mine (I think it's a 68 but tubes are semi-new GTs, strat is a 56) at around 3, 4 if I want that treble sustain to work for that chimeing sound. By that time, as you say, it's freakin LOUD. These are NOT distorted tones, this is DEAD clean. I can't get anything resembling that sound. Not even in the ball-park. I tweaked and dialed for about 5 hours without any luck.

So, I would really appreciate a little dialing help with just amp/cab settings, no effects, to get me in that direction.

I'm not impressed one bit.

I thought the old IK AT2 site demos were just bad examples, but telejuans presets confirmed by fears: there's a severe "bee buzz" digital aliasing distortion going on in EVERY SINGLE ONE of those sounds. It also manifests itself as a rather odd phasing, that sounds a bit fatiquing. And no, these things have very little to do with the fact they are in mp3 format.

I can definitely hear how much *good* simulation there is in AT2, like the way it seems to respond to player touch, and some amplifier specific quirks, but that's just about useless with the "bee buzz" aliasing slapped all over the sim.

It's quite nasty as such. :?

Vox Tonelab has its limitations, but they are nothing compared to what I'm hearing in AT2. I'm NOT looking forward to the demo.

Two/three years of faffing about and all we get is just another frigging generic amp sim sound. Oh dear.

Actually, my comments are not "hostile", I'm assuming that I need to approach the sound creation differently. I clearly don't get it. I don't hear anything or get a response anything like my twin out of the american tube 1. So, either A) I'm not feeding the signal properly, which is possible. I'm the worlds worst guitar tech. or B) Listening to the output from a "monitor centric" setup alters the sound so the perceived difference is only in loudness. or C) the only thing that is modeled is the Tolex which is the wrong color and mottled incorrectly.
