What's your main DAW ?

I am currently using mostly Psycle and Tunafish. I still pull up Kristal and Cakewalk Music Creator 2002 sometimes for working with audio.

Does that sound too low end? I've thought about getting the more expensive items -- money's not really the issue. The truth of the matter is I spend way too much time trying out features, vsti's, and samples as it is. If I didn't have a real job, maybe I could actually use all the features that come with the big programs.

DAW list is long, I agree. I have only listed programs which are in my opinion, having larger userbase. Anyway Poll options are not editable unfortunately.

I wish I could have separated Nuendo and Cubase as many users find it easier to get accurate results. Also I could have included some worthy contender too like Digital Performer, Bidule, Vegas, Buzz, MadTracker, Tunafish, Project5, Psycle, Kristal, making waves etc. and ofcourse a 'FISH' option.

Then again programs not listed here does not make them insignificant in any way.

I will be nice if you mention them as your main DAW in your posts, if not listed

People here seem to be very passionate about Energy XT, though I'm not sure why. It looks like a fairly steep learning curve--are the rewards that great?

I would like to experiment with a couple of other hosts just to get a feel for what other people are doing. I will admit to being curious about FL Studio (and the fact that, aparently, you can load it like a VST into another host) and Tracktion (Mackie has the hardware down cold, so, I assume, they would know what would really work in a software environment. Neither one of these is priced to break the bank, so maybe, someday, if I find a little extra cash hiding the sofa cushions...

Anyone care to enlighten me on the joys of any of these?

The learning curve to eXT depends on your background - I find it very similar to Cubase. Yes, it is a very rewarding host and it has given me back the joy of finishing pieces. It has a comfortable, slick sequencer, but the modular side opens up a creative area not present in fixed-structure hosts. The coolest thing is that the choice is left for the user , you don't have to use any of the modular stuff if you don't want to. The sequencer is absolutely "normal" and practical. See the pic:

Nothing is perfect, eXT does not sync well with my hardware and currently there is no recording of VST GUI movements, but xt2 is coming soon and will fix these along with other issues. eXT is also skinnable, above is just my vision, there are dozens of different looks to eXT.

I sold my Tracktion2 mostly because I needed the money- who needs two hosts? Tracktion is well suited for recording musicians, and has some unique and precious features, but I could never feel to be "in control" of it's MIDI editor.

Up to a couple of months ago, FL was for 2 years my only host.

Now I use Energy XT, but I'm still in the learning process, so all my songs up to now have been made in FL.

That skin looks awesome. Where did you get it? I've been toying around with EnergyXT and this skin makes it look a lot more inviting than the one that came with the demo.

energyXT is becoming my main DAW; i still love Podium, but i have limited time lately, so i turn to eXT most of the time of late.

My main host is Tracktion 1.6(nfr),but I've also been using Reaper alot more,learning it as I go,and playing with the new features that are added almost every time I blink.

i was a logic user on PC mainy writing psytrance until last year, then made a switch over to Ableton Live and having a crack at some breaks orientated sounds. took a while to adjust but now im having so much fun!

(well thats my 1st post out of the way..yay!!)

I currently rewire Reason and P5 into Acid Pro 5. I do most of my midi sequencing in Reason and P5, and then bounce audio up into Acid for manipulation and mastering. So I wouldn't know which to say was my main DAW. Work is split quite evenly between them . Though I voted Acid because with Acid 6, I'll probably be doing my vsti and reason sequencing in there with the nice MIDI now.
