The volume slider to the bottom left of each main set of sliders seems to control the dry amount. The two main sliders controlling the processed frequency range show this range by darkening the line - if you move them past eachother the selection inverts.

The other behaviour I've noticed is that the signal path seems to cascade downwards so frequency masks etc, determine what the next module down processes.

I love this plugin, one of my favourite effects. It does veer towards mutilation of its input, but it can do more subtle and musical things too.

Some of the fx are really meta-fx.
Their setting only effect what is effected by the next (of the four possible)
fx within dtblkfx.
Some of the fx are not effected by the meta-fx, however, as stated in the manual.

This plugin is quite a complicated monkey to wrap your head around
but it's possibilities are very deep.

You can have four effects or 2 effects and 2 meta-fx (or I suppose 1 meta- and 3 fx)

He's a killer.
I like to get lost in it... I don't understand everything, but i don't mind.

DtBlkFx is hard to grok for another reason:
the sliders that change the settings of the various possible fx do different
things for different fx without changing their labels in the gui.

You have to go to the manual to figure out what slider does what to a given effect.

Then, once you get to the manual, you realize the effects are named crazy
things that you have to have a lot of experience with before you can easily
recall them, what their attendant controls do and what the names mean.

The same is even more true of Lost Technology, which I've been using a lot in
conjunction with DtBlkFx so it's been on my mind a lot. darrell's VST really
is unique and terribly cool but I don't think too many people will get into it
until its at least somewhat more accessible.

We should have a little showcase to see who can get the coolest 3 seconds of sound out of this guy...

Post your examples and .fxp here.

Indeed. I second that emotion.

Excellant plugin :D

I'll get the ball rolling...

Nothing too fancy here but I used my envelope follower to shift some of the parameters realtime in this preset:

Here is the outcome:

I'd like to see assignable pan settings for the in/output of each effect. (at least use the "not-used" parameter on the filter for both).

Manual? There's a manual?

I must have forgotten about that when I unzipped it - I assume I saved it somewhere but simply forgot where (I always save manuals)

Right...must go find it and give it a good read. I'd really like to make some sense out of this thing. I can easily suss out some of the harmoinc stuff, and it seems to do some more obvious filtering, but when you run all 4 blocks, put in a snare drum and it comes out like a wounded elephant snorting helium...I'm not ashamed to admit it loses me. :hihi:

Post

There wasn't a manual with the first version.
I've read it many times and I can't say that I can pre-plan patches
yet without keeping the manual open and refering to it when in doubt.

It really is an out-of-this-world effect and well worth it.

this plugin deserves a beautiful grymmjack UI - I know your busy with Fretted and so on - but your brilliant, logical well structured UI style would go down so well on this awesome plugin...

I agree about white space - a lot of sliders are crammed in too close and you cant really tell which of the 4 effects they relate to...

This is so F'n perfect. I needed something like this so much that I had even started to program something similiar to this myself. The fact that it's free and open source makes this one of the best VST's I have. THANK YOU.

No one else want's to post their creations?

I just wanted to say thanks for this wonderful plugin! There are so many interesting sounds in this thing! I haven't had much time lately for much of anything, but got a small opportunity to try this out and I  it! :D + the source too! (that's too kind! when I get some time, I might have to hack it.. haha).
