When I added the option to Tunafish to use a plugin only for playback and ignore them when rendering I had plugins like this in mind. Thanks for making my feature useful, guys! :D

Very nice! 8)

arn't there some headphones that do this automatically?

nice thingy. havent tried but will. f you can come up with an anti-ear-fatigue-plugin your the winners... :)

hmm... Im thinking about sampling my room reverb some day with an impulse and putting it on the full mix when using earphones... anyone tried this?

Try Steinberg Externalizer. It should come with a Cubase/WaveLab purchase. Superior to this plug-in IMO, but the effort to make something better is always a good thing :)

With so many people using Ipods these days, it can be a good idea to use headphone tricks such as this. Thanks for the freebie!!

thats kind of reverse logic, assuming you mean this will help you get better mixes for headphones. instead it will help you get headphone mixes that translate to speakers. either way you compromise one for the other. but since most mixes are made for speakers, people are used to the sound of those mixes in phones.

Exactly !
I think you are wrong. This is only to be used while producing (mixing/mastering) and not as an effect when listening.
It is supposed to help you pan and EQ tracks properly the way studio monitors helps you, because headphone mixing/mastering essentially is deceptive.

basically that was what Paulie Phonick meant. but he also meant it to be turned on again when listening to the rendered track on headphones - so he's right ;)

Well, if he was to directly proceed to mastering, sure. But generally, after a mixdown I would turn it off if I was to listen to it how it really sounds.

Anyway, my main point was that I saw a poster here who used it with WinAmp, thinking it was supposed to enhance the listening experience, which I think was unintended for with this plug-in.

It's a tool for fooling your ears during mixing/mastering.

Oh, yeah! There's nothing I like better when mixing or mastering than having my ears fooled! :hihi:

Best used to simulate the bleed from stereo speakers....it's only simulated fooling.
perception: the stuff reality is made of.

This plugin is meant to be used to reduce listening fatigue. Personally I would not (REPEAT: WOULD NOT) use it to mix with. If you do mix with it be prepared to alter things once you listen to your mix thru' speakers.

Unless the developers have somehow managed to get round physics, any audio listened to with this is subject to comb effects and thus will not be a true representation of the audio as heard thru' speakers. Of course speakers colour sound themselves, but never the less I still wouldn't use on a serious project. :uhuhuh:

So to the people saying that it would be good for listening to music with, yes, they are right because it helps to reduce the fatigue associated with headphone listening. In Headphone use, normally the sound is isolated to each ear and the brain does not like that over an extended period of time.

I have been using HDPHX since, well Sun Jun 25, 2006 11:42 pm I guess...and it really does reduce listening fatigue, and I think it will help to set your eq/fx better while using headphones.

Before this plug, I had a guitar rig that I made while using headphones that sounded great, but when I'd listen on monitors it was very weak and flat - so I made another version for monitors but it sounded way too bright, etc., on headphones. Now with HDPHX the guitar rig I made for monitor listening sounds like the one I had made for headphones...er, if you follow me. In other words, I would have come a lot closer to using the right eq, reverb, etc. if I had used HDPHX while setting up that rig with my headphones on.

Thanks for this great audio utility!!

My initial experimentions with it seem to suggest it helps to make the transition from headphones to speakers. Of course I still had surprises and had to adjust, but it seemed to hold up better than usual; I didn't have the drums way too loud, for instance, which is a usual mistake I make mixing in headphones (which I'm forced to do a lot).
