Like it was mentioned before, reverse your audio - then apply reverb to it - then reverse it back. This is one of those "eureka" effects - in which you're supposed to realize on your own how to do it... though, I'm glad you've got a lot of helpful responses. I love this effect, but it's very easily abused!

Yes the Quadraverb did "reverse". My old Yamaha SPX-90 had one. I think you'd be hard pressed to find a digital reverb that DOESN'T. But none of them are actually reverse. Just because the device has a word on it, doesn't mean it's true.

Now, I suppose you could take the totally wet out of one of those, then after recording, shift the track back in time to make something like a traditional reverse reverb. But still, the reverse algotithms, don't really sound very convincing. Since you're shifting stuff in time anyway, might as well just reverse it, apply a good forward reverb, then reverse it again.

But yes, you COULD make something to do this in real time, as long as you could handle the several seconds of look-ahead it would require.

Moreso, you could make something that could run ANY effect "in reverse" but forward.

But not sure it's worth the extra effort, as it's so trivial do do this. I did that (granded, lousy sounding) demo above in about a minute and a half.

We have so much power at our fingertips these days. In the old days, it meant flipping the tape over. Not a fun thing to do in mid-recording.

suppose you're DAW is adding automatically an amount of blank measures you'd need for a good look-ahead operation ( depend on the lengh of you reverb, or delay, especially ) on a track you could then apply a freeze fonction to this track ( in fact: process the effect AND freeze, in offline mode )

It doesn't seems an excessively counterintuitive work as much as i can judge ?

Off topic, but remember in Twin Peaks when Cooper was in the Dark Lodge and everybody there spoke in this weird reverse language. What they did was say a phrase & reverse it. The actors would then learn how to say it in reverse, record the scene with the actors speaking this reverse language and then reverse the film.

Give it a go, it's crazy.

I know a bunch of things you can say one way, that say another thing the other way. But they're silly (I did this in high-school) so I'll spare you.

Well, OK, here's one:

"We can't see, in this" = reversed = "Sydney, is that you?" (The great thing is, it works either way!)

OH! And here's one I discovered myself off Sgt Pepper. In Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, John sings "Suddenly someone is there...". Backwards that says "The original must be reverse!" (or "seem reversed"... I forget exactly.

Then there's the famous one from The White Album's Revolution 9. "Number 9, Number 9, Number 9... " = reversed = "Turn me on deadman, Turn me on deadman, Turn me on deadman..."
