It's very different sounding. You just have to try it. It has some extreme "phaseyness" going on sometimes, which can sound rather pleasant. :)

Do a fine tune sweep from 1kHz to 3kHz on some drumloops with crashes and hihats going and see what I mean (hold Shift while tweaking the frequency knob for fine tune).

Cheers!

Not sure what I'm listening for, sounds like a sweep to me...sounds nice though! I find this one kind of "sandy"-sounding.

I've tried out the parts that I can access but the GUI is much too big inside FLStudio for me to access the controls lol. Maybe with VST3's resizable GUI someday.
Sounds damned nice, the bits I can get to.

I'm on mac, so none of these eqs are available for me.
But I really like AirEQ, and I'll purchase it, together with Neon HR. These two should cover quite a few tasks.
Can't wait for Angeltone to be released as it sounds very good.
I'm pretty sure that purchase is far superior so go for it. Can't really go wrong with PSP high end plugins. Actually, I'm a bit jealous! :)

So I won't tell you what other pieces of software I intend to buy at the same time :D (by the way Master Comp is on the list too, together with the MD3 and the Inflator for poco... oops  )

Thanks for your advice.

I tried to install the plugin but the mac version seem to be bad build, as it shows as a regular folder not as a normal .vst
So, I can't say anything about it except this.

A post I made in the other topic.

Brainworx told me that the native VST/AU/RTAS version will cost about 500€.

I think the price is a bit high but it's a quality plugin, intended for mastering purposes. So maybe that's why. Creamware's SCOPE users says that it's a very powerful beast when it's well tweaked.

By the way, what is Angeltone ?

Post

It's a new mastering eq plugin, based on dynamic convolution, from Tritone Digital, the makers of Hydratone and Colortone.
It is still in beta, but you can try it if you register to their forums at tritonedigital.com.

Apple only, I believe. :(

It's a pluggo thing. At first will be available for mac, followed soon by the win version. All their plugins are cross-platform, don't you know?

I do know, don't you know? :D

Yes, us PC-musicians get a little used to the Win-first/only, Mac-later paradigm. I'm glad the Mac users get first dibs sometimes.

500 $ for a software eq is just too much :o

I highly doubt that it is dynamic convolution as this method is patented by sintefex. What it is instead is kind of "multisampled" convolution, that is, not in dynamic layers but it frequency layers that are interpolated to allow smooth frequency and gain adjustments (that is, not stepped knobs).

Dynamic convolution = changes impulses depending on incoming signals level on a per sample basis (or less frequently but then interpolated interval).

So, hydratone/angeltone can be thought of as a sampler with extensive mapping for each key but no dynamic layers.

Quite, in this case.

In fact, for *this* particular EQ it is way, *waaaay* too much. Plenty got lost in the translation from the Scope version to this VST port over. The depth and openness is simply not here.

Says quite alot for the Scope platform, or more specifically, the Analog Devices DSP instruction sets.

Patented or not, you don't have to use the term, but you can use the principle, as a developer...
Well if it's just a multisample, without dynamic layers, that doesn't sound right to me... They say there are thousands of samples in these eqs. Somehow they have to implement a different kind of response of the eq for 1dB of boost at 1000Hz compared to 2dB boost at 1000Hz.
Or you're saying something else...

Post

Yes, you're saying something else.
OK, got it... it's my not-so-good English.
Cheers to you too.

Post

tritone eqs are just static mutlisamples, new ir sample for every setting you have access to.

dynamic convolution would switch samples based on input level, and what you would have to use for something like convolution based compression, i assume.
