I actually like the idea. I've been completely rearranging my plugins folder for 5 times and it still sucks. So it can't get any worse imho...
4.0.1 has already arrived. That's soon, I suppose; I haven't even received my upgrade yet; shipping starts from the ninth of this month. Don't know whether this issue is solved in it, though.

New "features" are typically in full point updates 4.x and small bugfixes are usually in things like 3.1.x or 4.0.x.

errr why ?- cubase doesnt use the position of the plug-in in the list to determine where the dll is - so it will make absolutely no difference to importing old projects
I believe every thread should devolve into character attacks and witch-burning. It really helps the discussion.

Eric,

Unless I'm missing something (which I may well be), any time I've loaded a project that contains a deleted or missing .dll I do get a message from SX2 indicating the path where it expected to find the .dll, but I am not seeing a dialogue allowing me to find (browse for) the .dll (and then load the preset I had been using).

This will happen A LOT with the forced architecture. My VST folders are subdivided pretty throughly.

Do you use Cubase? Have I indeed missed something?

Although the folders are used when we browse for plugins, Cubase keeps it's own internal list of plugins and if you move them to a new folder (for example) Cubase doesn't care - it loads them just the same. (Try it - you can reorganise as much as you like.) The initial scan finds the dlls where ever they are and updates the paths to the dlls in its own records.
