This $199 plugin works with Pod, Toneport UX1/UX2, Guitar Port, and KB37.

If you don't own any of those, you can get it for more money, and it comes with a USB guitar input (dongle):

Like I said, $99 wouldn't be too bad.. you can get Amplitube 2 for $250 these days.

Wrong way round. You're buying an audio interface with amp/effects modelling built in. Then you pay for the facility to use that as a VST in addition to the existing facilities if you want. What makes you think you should be entitled to new functionality free on top of the functionality you actually bought the thing for?

"Hey I just bought this car. And now there's a new model with a sunroof at extra cost. Bastards; I should be entitled to a free sunroof"

Indeed, so, how much CPU does these amp models use? Would be very interesting knowledge. Especially compared to the other amp plugins available. Anybody compared to the NI amp plugin and IK plugin?

I'm guessing that it's no different than using a Toneport.. fairly low CPU use on a decent computer...

..and the sound WASTES NI and IK.

OMG!!! I've been begging line6 at their forum to make a VST... and now it arrives just when i finally upgraded my Komplete2 to K4 (which includes GR2)

this makes me want to get a line6 UX.

Just to reemphasize, you can only use the toneport specific preamp models if you have the toneport-they aren't available to PodXT users...

@ Whyterabbit: you can use as many toneport VSTs as yer PC will handle. The 6 console models are in both the silver and gold version(meaning that you get them if you have a tone port) and I dont mind running this as a dongle as I sometimes need the extra mic pres it has built in, as well as the bonus of being much more portable than my UA-1000 if I take the toneport and my laptop somewhere.

The Gearbox VST will unlock to equate your available amps to whatever's available in your Line6 hardware, according to my understanding. So if you have a PODxt and did not buy the TonePort D.I. package (ie. you just paid for the software VST upgrade) you will still have the same models as the PODxt.

If you own a TonePort, you will have access to the TonePort's models. As you add expansion packs, those will also appear in the VST version.

The Gearbox VST always = your Line6 hardware, whatever that may be.

caveat: at least, that's how I understand it.

That is the impression I got from the line6 forum as well. I just re-read my post and see that I did not explain it properly. if you have a tone port(which comes stock with the same models as the silver package) you get all of those models. If you by an expansion pack, you get those models as well. so its possible to have a list of models different from that of the silver or gold package...

I'm in the "what do I need it for" camp...maybe as I keep up with things I'll see some benefits, but right now I'm not sure what spending 200 bux will do for me

If i buy this software along with guitarport will guitarport be upgraded as well?
Toneport is cool but they are too big for what i want.

Its a guitarport Ive got, with most of the model packs, although Im thinking of flogging it to get a UX2 to use with my laptop.

But basically, you'd buy the guitarport, and then pay to get the plugin option. You can't buy it 'with' a guitarport, if you see what I mean.

I meant if i bougth guitarport as well, guitarport would be updated by the software, so if wanted to go for direct monitoring or other situations i would get the same options as in the plug.
