Yes, you have to be careful with any thread that say "Guitar Players" in the title!

That being said, I just installed two Seymour Duncan Classic Stack Plus (newest noisless single coils from SD) in my Strat, and it is DEAD QUIET. Just have to turn off the hi-hats in my apartment. No sheilding required...

still I think shielding is a no brainer, a roll of shielding tape will not cost you more than a couple of beers would cost, it will shield a couple guitars, it won't decrease anything, but you never know what's coming down the pike. I think the worst time to decide to shield your guitar is when you discover you need to...

btw how do you turn off hi-hats?

I've heard some good and bad about the Fender SCN pickups. I know they reduce noise greatly, but the complaint I often hear is that although they have a very authentic bridge pickup sound, there is something wanting in the middle and neck pickups. Anyone else have this experience or is it just people looking for problems that aren't really there?

No idea. But they were the perfect choice for my G&L strat. I've never been happier with this guitar.

I meant I just lower my dimmers till the circut is off. The dimmers (I have them in 3 rooms!) totally interfere with my guitar pickups until I lower them!

I had Dimarzio Virtual Vintage (noisless SC's) installed in my Califonia Fat Strat. For two years I could not figure out why I was getting a high pitched BUZZ, when going DI to my DAW. Just installed the Classic Stack +'s last weeks and noise went away! I'm soo happy!!! These pickups sound great too, I think they are considered the best in the market for noiseless SC's.

yeah dimmers are bad news, I have dimmers too but they go off with a switch so I just kill them.... but I had never heard dimmers called hi-hats

unless I'm missing something here stacks are not "single" coils...

Hink, where have you been? All the best drummers are using a pair of dimmer switches these days!

Alright sorry for the late anwser (I was too bussy playing with the new toy)

I have good news and bad news.

The good news is that anybody can do this, it's the pickups.
They are Joe Barden pickups.
Regardless of the noise level in my opinion these are the best sounding pickups for Tele and Strats.
Very hot and responsive, like no other, yet they stay very true to the vintage Strat sound.
Sascha Franck I highly doubt there is anything quiter then the Barden including humbackers of any kind.
I set my gate at -75dB and it still locks up like a champ.
I can stand in front of a CRT monitor, turn away or whatever the low noise level doesn't change!

Now to the bad news:
These pickups are really expensive.
They were already installed on the Strat by previous owner.
I don't think the second hand store that sold me the guitar knew what they were and how much they cost.
