Guitar Pro is a tablature program for the most part, and it exports MIDI.

I use it myself, much easier for programming drumlines and basslines for rock/metal. Then I export the MIDI and use it in Sonar.

Well, since I've got no host suggestions outside the ones I listed, I'm guessing I've exhausted the available host list so I'll try again with eXT giving that I own a license for that already (as has been suggested)...but today, as I did before, I didn't get very far with it but I did post some questions on the XT forum so...I'll see how it goes.

Is there something specific you are having problems with or stuff not "clicking" in your head?

Judging from the answers I got from the eXT forum I think part of the problem, as a long time Vegas user trying to use eXT, is that I keep assuming some features to be basic and part of all hosts, so not knowing the program that well I waste a lot of time looking for features in eXT that...are simply not there.

Honnestly, the audio editing and recording features are so...crude (sorry, but I don't know how else to put it) compared to even new host like Reaper which is not even a year old that I don't know how peoples manage with it. Or they probably use something else for audio, which is what I've been doing all along and that I'm trying to get away from.

Nevertheless, I have no other host that does MIDI at this point in time and I did figure some things out, with help from the good peoples from the eXT forum, so maybe I'll manage to finish some music after all.

hi. if i can jump in, im also in this in bullsharks boat, i feel my host is limitng me now. because of both cpu, and actual limits of the host itself. i know everything that i need to know to use fl studio to its fullest.

i even tried to utilize fl to its full power by rendering every synth to wave, disabling effects ect. i feel ive outgrown its simple workflow and outgrown its use. i feel disgusted with gol that there is still no freeze. wtf is hes thinking, ive not a clue.

its no longer acceptable with todays high cpu synths. (save it, i utilized fl to its full potential, and it still seriously let me down) with daws having freeze today, producers no longer need to buy a new pc every time new software is released. im not gonna go out and buy a superfast cpu just to use the newest version of fl studio. theres alot producers who make great music on there relatively slow pcs because there daw includes a freeze function.

that, and that they work with alot of hardware and samples. it seems like gol expects people to buy a hot new pc for each version of fl studio. you dont need to question this, its rediculous. and im not going to, because i shouldnt have to beg my host for forgiveness.

i do have ext and reaper. i think ext has a simple freeze? , dunno about reaper. i too am realy confused by ext, but im afraid to load up the forums with stupid questions. when i owned synapse orion platinum, i never felt afraid to post.

as did/does anybody else. and the support was the best i ever had from a commercial software standpoint.

dunno how friendly the ext forums is, the reaper forums are pretty good. i cant say i have ever got any decent help on the looptalk forums. it was hard to comprehend becuase i was buried in a 6 foot hole filled with sarcasm and piled high with bullshit.

so i too am looking for a new host.

That's strange reasoning. Gol/FL isn't responsible for your high CPU usage. Blame your [use of] plugins.

Freeze only helps so much. Even when implemented really elegantly it will still affect workflow somewhat. The best solution is simply trying to cut down on CPU use. Stick with plugs that are easy on the CPU.

i SERIOUSLY beg to differ dude. when i tryed ableton, i had a song at almost full cpu and lowered it to almost nothing after everytrack was frozen

Yes, Tunafish does have freeze.

I just needed to point out that your reasoning is seriously flawed. You say Gol expects you to buy a new PC with every new version of FL? How is that? I doubt CPU use went up significantly between version 5 and version 6. The CPU usage is all in your plugs, not in FL.

Software, or indeed anything, that can be bought but then cannot be sold, is worthless. Literally.

Of course, it may still have intrinsic value to you, but this only applies if you:

1. Continue to use it.
2. Have the hardware to run it.
3. Have the OS to run it.

All three are not set in stone and you should therefore have the right to sell it.

I too will never buy Sonar because of their EULA.

My loss? Maybe, but there are other hosts that are made by more enlightened producers for me to chose from.
