Wow, thanks.
By subdividing and putting five units of measurement on both sides of the beat, you can now see that the second beat will fall on the upstroke of the third 8th note of the quintuplet. The same thing will hold true when you divide any odd number of attacks over two beats.
Aw, shucks.Moe Shinola wrote:
Herodotus, you should teach for a living. And the examples are a revalation. I've always been sort of intimidated by polyrhythms, as if they were something only "advanced" musicians tackled, after they'd sweated for years over the mundane stuff. Just hearing what the rhythms sound like helps my attitude a bit, I think. Thank you very much.
Very cool indeed.Watto wrote:G'day guys,
The KVR contest for January was Pedal Point, and unfortunately I didn't submit mine in time (only did it today), but I had the idea of combining a pedal with some of hero's polyrhythms. The idea kept changing as I recorded it, and ended up surprising me! Anyway, it's very different compared to my usual stuff, but I dig it - hope you guys like it! And a big thanks to herodotus for demystifying this stuff!
The funny thing is, you'll probably hear 1 as being the bass notes, but 1 is actually meant to fall a quaver later...
