Eric, in a few months when I feel like doing a setup, i'll probably pester you to help me pick a really good nut for it, and hopefully i can order it from you 8) i want some low-friction thingy, preferrably anything but plastic, and i'm not keen on big locking monsters, i like the old-school look too much

cheers
OK, I get it now. You got the gun-oiled neck with the older style nut, instead of the teflon (Tusk) setup that comes with the standard (unfinished) maple neck.

Here's my suggestion- just play it as is, simply put. You'll probably never change it, even though you believe you might. FYI: I thought I'd have taken the rails (PUPS) out of my Legacy Special a long time ago, but they're better than anything I've heard. Ergo, why change 'em? Likewise, the nut that comes hand-in-hand with the older gun-oiled types, is sufficient. The guitar (that you got) will talk you out of it- mark my words (no joke). Personally, I've given up arguing with mine (with a LoL on that)! :D

hey G&L, thanks for the replies!!! sorry for the delay

yeah i'm just LOVING this guitar - everything you say is true, and the headstock has really grown on me

this is my most favorite guitar ever!! just unreal

i swapped the nut for a graphtech tremnut, and I installed ferraglide saddles, now there's no problem at all with using the trem, dead silent and smooth as butter

i'll probably put on some sperzel licking tuners at some point, but that's it

this thing is an absolute work of art! you can tell it was made by people who are very proud of their work

cheers

I've admired G&L basses and guitars from afar, but never bought one. Congrats on finding a guitar that makes you happy, Muff. There's nothing quite like an instrument that's obviously made by people proud of their work.
Surely there must be consensus by now...

I didn't get their Licking tuners as I hate that damp feeling, but I did slap a set of the Sperzel locking tuners on my mid 80s Skyhawk and they work great. That and a Starr switch to replace the badly positioned (IMO) toggle switch are it's only mods and I swear I love this puppy.

Maybe It's time to buy it a new nut...

Pffft, snobs with too much money in their hands.

Yeahyeahyeah, I wish I could get an ASAT for myself as well...
There are 3 kinds of people:
Those who can do maths and those who can't.
