The NeKo/MiKo is tremendously expensive, and there's a Timbaland edition so I'm pretty unhappy about that, but it is modular and has a sweet integrated touchscreen (looking better and better to me since mine died for no reason and I'm not in the mood to mail it for a warranty repair atm)

It has a "shell" over an optimised XP OS so you needn't ever interact with the windows underneath at all. It's modular, so you can pop out, say, the transport control midi and pop in a whole extra band of faders (all of which is like $350 a module if you want ones that didn't come with the unit) and so far as I can tell they really did pull off the "PC and midi controller in one box" thing in a way that no other dedicated DAW has.

I messaged this info to my guitar player and hope he won't be too offended. I think just one of two were giving him trouble, not voicing them but making them be in a position he's comfortable with. I love this weird witchcraft you freaks do. Thanks

Getting latency down would require a great CPU and more importantly an RME or MOTU or somesuch sound card. Mine is barely passable, but good enough considering.

As to syclavier to midi to score that's what's discouraging. It took forever, required willing participants to spend their own money, sounds like a damned nightmare.

A synclavier is not much of a machine compared to a DAW anymore.

the synclav to .mid to score is what the Ensemble Modern and I think Todd Yvega do NOW, then it was print from the thing directly, and no f'ing with any MIDI; I think the real reason for the MIDI step in-between is to make scores available for study; posterity/modern compatibility type thing.

fwiw, my MOTU card seems to be a contributing factor to my latency, more 'samples' in the buffer; in Cubase the measured latency goes from 0 using onboard sound to say 5.6 ms with the lowest buffer setting, 64. (I use the MOTU anyway, I'm not sure why at this point. (thats right, I remember, its interface with the Mackie Universal, and the 10-inputs and all the outputs.)

all this talk about machines and CPU points to a PT/HD sort of solution, but even were I Queen of the Omniverse and rich beyond compare, I'd prefer a dedicated operating system; if they'd have kept up development and put a good GUI on it, synclav might truly rock now. who knows.

what's in bold, there, is prolly what turned me off. I know from optimising XP, I know ALL about it; it still eats resources, the processes in that code cannot be separated from one another.
a shell over optimized XP is in theory NO diff than Receptor; they might use a more robust hardware than MUSE... they have basically shut off XP services, and got rid of all the backwards compatibility that's built into it. see PM.

AHA, I remember looking at NeKo when I first got a computer, I priced it, didn't trust it (as many people seemed to have issue with as there were advocates), got some funky ass pentium 4 machine instead.

the fingering I gave you on the m7b5 form is one of the most popular rhythm guitar forms in funk, same chunk as first inv 9th chord/no root. Django Rheinhardt two-fingers-ready also.
(You should edit out these witti-sardonicisms in your volleys to said gittar plunker, esp if you're not gonna pay 'em...)
