You already have it, the current shapes of the envelopes are: "/" linear, "E" exponential, "S" smooth (similar to exponential)

@Jonas: asked to be part of the beta testing phase and I got a few questions
- how to test: will u release some documents/info like testing routines? I am experienced enough with vst plugins to target some common weak spots (eg. preset handling, massive automation data), so I can get along myself too.
- when to test: any infos about time schedules?
- manual: it would be easier for me to have a manual. would maybe prevent me from incorrect critiques if I can look up which function is supposed to do what exactly.

btw: I am fine with yor licence conditions

hope Helix will become even greater.

about the GUI:
there are some things I like about it, some not. for instance GUI elements really are too small. we dont need 'analoguish' monstersized knobs, and the value bar in the middle is a clever solution. based on my webdesign knowledge I'd still argue Helix' GUI is a visual overload and not user friendly.
+1 for tabs. further a fancy look is also crucial (not from a programmer viewpoint), if u dont want to do it yourself, I am sure you could hire plugin designers like artvera or grymjack, they usually do a great job imho.

Ohyesohyes. :D

(quick crappy recording of closed beta sound live output)
http://djtbmx.soulbreakers.com/junkpile ... trings.mp3 (a certain feature in the filter section makes this possible)
http://djtbmx.soulbreakers.com/junkpile ... enmore.mp3 (sync303 FTW)

Patch, ne?

EDIT: amiga909: I believe getting a skin done for Helix was a bit too early at the time nBeat was doing the mockup for Jonas a while ago. (Last or early this year I believe.) At the moment it's slowly getting there on each version, with noticeable improvements on ergonomics and how things function relative to the visual and mouse.

But other than the 'visual' issues, what about placement of the controls? To me it seems like it's in logical order, heck it's a lot more logical than how Oatmeal's default GUI was arranged, frankly speaking.

Anyways, I believe the beta-testing is simply to check if it works on different people's hosts, (ie: crashes, odd behaviour) as well as whether or not things are broken.

Documentation is on its way, I assure you. ;)

This is hands down one of the ugliest synths I've ever seen. I agree that focus on the engine is critical for a commercial release, but I think investing in a pro/semi pro designer to handle the GUI work would double, maybe even triple sales once the commercial version is released.

Jonas
key word: SIMPLE

I had to spend like 30 minutes tweaking those dang envelopes just to get the right settings. On any other synth I own, it would take about 10 seconds.

About the GUI:
I'm working on it...
Most things will be bigger and smaller.
Cryptic ? :hihi:

Jörgen of northenBeat is on it. It's gonna be great!

my enthusiasm for this synth has just quadrupled! :) perhaps more. Gorgeous tones and an nBeat gui are too much to pass up!

Yes, seconded ;)

Btw, Jonas, did you get my email ?
As far as improving the GUI seems to be the consensus, and as far as no new features has been implemented since the free version, what do you expect from the beta test team ? On what do you want us to focus ? (the question has been brought up above, and i was wondering the same : shall we wait for a GUi improved version ? SUggest new features (Helix already has TONS of features :D )...
Cheers !

Ah, yes!!! Thought the first phase was only final, but still on it? Sweet as! :D Should cover some ground since the last mockup eh. ;)

Ooops...

I was trying to report that since some months (lazy one here) I can't play notes on Logic Audio (v5.5 OLD windows version!)... Well, may be it could be still released for free... no?

:)

Good job!
