"cold""? Just curious (comparing synaesthesia experiences).
Nope, far too warm for my tastes. Probably needs metallic reverb.
Here, it's a good bit colder now:

...but it still needs something, maybe a more piercing attack?
Yes, it's certainly colder with the reverb. It didn't have any FX, just straight out of the synth, and for my synaethesia (everyone is somewhat but not completely different I find) it's not really cold, but more "silver", kind of dusty.

I think you're right about the attack- it doesn't need to be harder (it's very firm) but more piercing as you say. Maybe layered with a higher nonharmonic sound that sweeps slightly upward in pitch, then out into a big cold reverb.

By the way that's discrete analog.

I never thought of mp3 artifacts as being particularly cold. They sound more like a basket of chipmunks gurgling banana smoothie. ...Whoa!!! I just had a bit of an acid flashback. Actually, I think it was a mushroom flashback. Yup, definitely psilocybin.

Ironically, I quite drinking coffee a few months ago after being a hardcore caffeine addict for most of my life. It was making my nerves ragged. Now I'm a tea man. (still caffeinated, but far less so) If I could change my alias, I would. :tu:
What, afreshcupofchai? Doesn't have the same ring, to tell the truth. You could privately redefine "joe" to include tea...?

Ah. So you've seen the mechanism for mp3 encoding.

Christ Maffy, Chai???? Really???? Do you think I'm that much of a hipster? I might as well buy a Macbook and start riding around on a Vespa if I'm going to drink that crap. :D

It's ALL chai. Just the original name for the stuff. Even Lipton in a little filter-paper bag.

Hot low-pass filter-paper.

Besides, chai sounds pretty much like joe.

If it was attached to a large rotating geometric orb that was hovering above the field I was lying in, then... yes.

:) Nice visual

Here's a tip that might actually not induce flashbacks....make lots of space in between instruments with surgical precion - don't let frequencies overlap, eq everything tightly, maybe add a nice metallic verb. Perform with 'cold' in mind...be exact and minimal in your arrangements.

Isn't that what people who go on and on about "warm" and "vintage" do?

Say- since "cold" and "warm" are at least partly subjective, would you consider this sound:

"cold""? Just curious (comparing synaesthesia experiences).
Aroused by JarJar: i really do not know friend and my post was to be taken with a pinch of salt but also could work to make something sound "Colder" (or to some doing that could make something sound "Warm")

The Bell Tone: Not to my ears, i really like bell like sounds actually because of the 'clarity' they always seem to possess

Here is a beat i put together about 6/7 months ago using ableton's DrumRack and i used a bell type tone in their as i really liked it, let me know what you think:

for gold, or sold or even bald I would have had answers.

But cold ...........

No, can't see ....

(I like bald mixes ....)

This is the greatest Question so far - Who needs analog "warmth" its overrated any way... LOL

Quantize the midi data, as well as set all velocity and duration parameters the same; pro-tool the audio into perfect conformity and compress all dynamic range out of it. Resample to a lower bit depth and/or sampling frequency. Use an Audigy card -- better yet, record the audio output of one soundcard into another. Compress and limit the bass frequencies with a linear phase device, and make sure that they never become prominent. Get some random tarnce or crunk guy to master it. That should get you in the ballpark.

(This thread rocks!)
Wait... loot _then_ burn? D'oh!

Maybe Linda Bot (the Ice Queen!) can help you out - it's time she gave something back to the community that made her.

I suggest you PM her.

Peace,
Andy.
