Hmmm... Amber, listening to one of the mp3s now, 'rezzure day', that really is a very lovely Solina-ish, fizzy string sound!

Hey FX guys,

Would it be possible to post some full-size screenshots or is that not possible yet? The demos sound great though - great job.

There are some here.

I've heard the expression 'thru-zero' before, but in this context what does it mean and how is it significant?

Its a shame Amber doesnt seem to have a CHORD hold function - I love that on synths...

I'm going to guess these'll be out of my price range, so all I can hope for is that the synth squad cartoon becomes a reality. Josie and the Pussycats meets Battle of the Planets (with awesome soundtrack, of course).
Surely there must be consensus by now...

a lazy Dubstep track

Fusor on synth bass + vox + drums

home made patch nothing impressive

hakey - it's a technique that's used on digital FM synths to keep the pitch stable when modulating an osc by an amount that would take it into negative frequency values. The vast majority of analog oscs cannot do this - the frequency simply stops at 0 which does not preserve pitch. The only analog oscs that can do this, to our knowledge, are relatively expensive modular synth modules.

Hope this helps - I didn't want to get super-technical. It basically means that it's easy to get musically playable FM sounds a la digital FM. There's a lot more info on the concept if you google.

through zero oscs simply are able to positive and negative ie lower than 0 oscillations.

Normal FM uses integer ratios of carrier to modulators.

All 0 oscs do is enable you to use negative numbers to generate the ratios

As such they are a source of the more crazed types of FM sounds.

These oscs are capable of both.

It did help, thanks - I'd always wondered why FM synthesis was relegated to the realm of the digital synth (even though it must have been possible to FM one osc with another even with early analog modulars), so presumably this is the reason why.

those demos on the site i find quite impressive!!

Whee! The Cypher demos sound real promising. Much smoother than that ARP modular VSTi thing that was claiming "true audio rate modulation" (was still grainy as hell).

Very interested in trying the demos.

Cheers!

Hmmm...sounds interestingissimus.

As bmanic said - that cypher thing really does sound like it makes a good stab at audio rate mod. Those demos are a bit of a tempter. Haven't heard anything similar in s/w land so far, and when I closed my eyes, I would have been fooled into thinking it was some old modulars being abused. It's the abuse that gives the character in any synth, so I'll hold judgement till I actually have a proper demo to abuse, but it really does sound like some of the claims might be fair.

The first synth demos didn't set me alight, but I'll assume it's based on Orca and is a fully developed version of it - Orca certainly had me convinced they were onto something, so I'd imagine I'll like it, and from the screenshot, it looks like it has all the main functions (and more) that I'd want gathered from all the better old analogue monos (didn't notice a ringmod or ringmod oscillator, but maybe I didn't look closely enough...). Again, need to get my hands on it, because the demos didn't abuse it at all IMO.

As for the string machine thing - doesn't really interest me. Can do that with any number of other synths IMO. Electronic strings are strings, but if I have to buy it as part of the bundle then so be it...it can languish in some folder or other. I never understood the salivating over analogue string synths - never impressed me then and don't now.

But Cypher...that really sounds like a breakthrough in VSTi to me. I suspect I'll buy it on its strength alone. I hope it's all as stable as I think it'll be, and well done FXpansion for taking their time to develop some nice synths (hopefully). I can't abide the silliness we get places like here - "have to have it now", "I want feature X and Y" (before even playing it or buying it) - You get quality by craftsmanship, and you can't code that stuff overnight. Quality is worth waiting for. There are only a small handful of devs that I seriously await goodies from. FXpansion are one of them. I might even buy undemoed - I certainly wouldn't consider that from the likes of Arturia etc.
Someone else mentioned the GMedia SOB - yeah - that's the other one. :hihi:

Hmmm - I've got itchy fingers for some modulation madness. I can imagine Cypher sitting nicely with my Korgs etc. Big fat analogueness that sounds nothing like a godawful Moog...oh yeah!

I feel horny now... :?
