The parts of the interface that I think could use more contrast are things like the colored section of the dials(the "filler") that shows you what a knob is set at. It's hard to just see at a quick glance what a knob is set to. Maybe make the bar slightly wider, or a different color?

The tabs could use some "definition" as well, as mentioned above.

Even the EQ page, the EQ line itself is quite light against an already light background. Hard to see for me.

On the IR editing pages, the line(s) that go through the IR window don't show up well being the same color as the IR representation. Does that make sense?

It's possible that it's my monitor, but I don't generally have any contrast problems with other plugins.

I think this has great potential. It even sounds pretty good. And the interface isn't bad at all. Just needs more readability!

Brent
I added a little more definition to the tabs, the surrounding lines are a little darker and deselected ones slightly grey, but if you're having issues with the rest it's probably not gone far enough for you. I'm not massively keen to redo all the graphics, but if I get more people saying it's not got enough contrast then I'll do it. Thanks for clarifying and giving your feedback.

So, does anybody else have issues with the contrast?

Cheers, I think you're person number 5 so far :)

Thanks. I understand how hard it is to redo graphics and I know it's not a fun job. So if you can't, then no worries. Just trying to give some constructive feedback. It's definitely possible that it's partially my screen as well. I think the biggest problem of all, and if I had to choose one thing to change, it would be the color in the knobs.

That doesn't take away from what seems to be a great reverb, with a good approach to convolution. I've actually had no problems so far with sound or stability. Vista32 1.83gHz Core2Duo with 3GB RAM on Cubase 5.

I have yet to fully test everything, and will report back as I do. Any info on final cost for this one?

I'm surprised it's the colours in the dials you'd change, I thought light green on dark grey would be ok. Is it that they're too washed out, you can't tell the grey from the green areas very well?

I'm thinking in the region of $50USD but not totally decided yet.

I appreciate the feedback, it's constructive for sure :) Always good to get some consensus though since everybody's setups are so different before I spend ages changing stuff!

Pleased it's running solidly, seems the only real issue so far is when the effect gets closed when the file selector is open which hopefully will be a pretty rare thing. Some other plugins also crash hosts under these conditions but it's frustrating me!

If its really frustrating you, the voxengo pristine space plugin seems to block mouse clicks outside of the bounds of the explorer window (including the plugin). So it must be possible to do. He seems to use an older style explorer window...though not sure if this has anything to do with it. I don't see it as being a show stopper and it seems to be lives error handling combined with ableton's weird weird way of handling keymessages to plugins.

I think the big issue with the knobs is that they seem to change color the farther you turn the knob, and as they get brighter they are much better. The size may not be an issue if you just make the color the full-on green the whole time. Does that make sense? I just know that on my laptop screen(which has a resolution much lower than others, as high res screens would be even harder to see, IMO), I sometimes couldn't even see the color fill in the knobs at ALL. I had to move them to figure out where the setting was at.

I hope this helps!

Some of them use different schemes to others. For example dry/wet on the final mix scheme does get greener as it rotates, but some like the LFOs have a full-on green at the tip of the current rotation point fading back to grey at the origin point. Do these ones show up ok? If so I could replace the gradient green ones with the green tipped ones.

I have been following this reverb's progress, and would like to suggest a few things...

The mix tab has a diagram which helps with understanding the signal flow, but does not offer anything more.

Could it be possible to make the blocks 'clickable' - to enable each them to be turned on or off (bypass). This would make navigation much easier, as currently, to see if a 'tab' is enabled, you must click on the tab first to find out.

A long shot... but here goes, have you considered an extra tab for preset management, with maybe 50 slots, and a simple way of editing the bank.

Congratulations for what you have achieved so far, and if you do manage to price this at under $50, I will be one of your first customers. :tu:

Why not make it skinable?
So people could create their own looks, buttons, knobs etc.

It looks okay at the moment but it's not very clear for the eye.

There are quite a few people around here doing great GUIs,
maybe some of them would jump on and create some amazing graphics.

Also there is, skin maker and the knob maker forum here.

Go through the pages, you will find some amazing things and further links
two other graphics.

Can I vote again for a Mac OSX version? :hihi:

Midiworks, you can vote as many times as you use a new KVR login each time ;) With the knob maker link, that's what I used actually. I like the minimalistic look so I'll be keeping with that, but generally people seem to think it should have a bit more contrast, so I'll work on that before the initial release.

Thanks for the input John-E34; regarding the clickable signal flow, this would be tricky due to the way I've done things (but following a bit of re-design it would be trivial), so for the future I think it's a good idea and I've noted it down. Preset management, sample browsing and a mod matrix is in the future plan too but since it will need a total GUI redesign to do it properly I'll make that a v1.5 or v2.0 feature and will work on that after this beta phase, thanks for suggesting it. The next GUI will be a bit larger I think to accommodate a proper sample browser area etc so it's more work than I want to take on for version 1.0.

For those asking for a mac version, please indicate AU or VST preference (I probably won't do both). I am very much biased towards a VST since I can reuse a lot more of the Windows code (but if everybody says an AU is preferable then I won't waste time on a VST).

I like the look overall, so I don't think it needs skinning or anything. Just some minor tweaks(really, despite my complaints, they ARE minor issues).

I do think that something as simple as replacing the gradual color knobs with the normal color knobs will be a step in the right direction. If you can make the green slightly brighter to stand out from it's background, that would be great. But I see what you're saying with two different knob color methods, and it would be a help for sure to make them all the same.

I do think this will be a pretty cool reverb.

Just an observation... green highlights seem to be causing problems, as mentioned in this thread, but I think it is more to do with color choice.

If you were to change green for another color, ie deep red, or blue, the visibility issue would not be as profound.

You could even add a menu to add things like:

Highlight color
Default preset path
default startup patch
etc etc

Personally, I have difficulty with green and red, and you will find most of my plugins have been chosen to avoid these colors.

For example, Linplug Octopus is amazing.... I just cannot put up with the interface.

Black and white is universal,

Edit - Thanks for your reply, I look forward to the updates (as in - keep em coming) :)

I've posted an update with a few tweaks inspired by the excellent feedback so far (thanks to all involved):

- All dials are now the green-tipped type
- All dials have had the green contrast upped
- All dials have a longer and darker line to indicate their position
- The smaller mod dials are now a little larger
- The reverb vis is now a lot darker (including the envelope)
- The EQ line on-state is a lot greener now too
- An issue loading in Live8 is fixed (if it wasn't started as admin the presets didn't load)

So, contrast fans, have I gone far enough yet? :) If not, don't be afraid to give me another kicking ;) The new app is uploaded in the usual place and all the images on the website have been updated (though they may need a ctrl+f5 to force a reload since they are so similar).

I can't work out how to get the file selector modal, but I've posted a plea for :help: in the devs forum!

Seriously, it's SOOOOOO much better. I have no problem seeing the knob settings now, and everything you did is a ton clearer. I can say that I have very little, if any complaints about contrast now(as in, I can't think of any). I think the plugin is better for it for sure. Thanks!
